Jesse James (1927 Film)
''Jesse James'' is a 1927 American silent film, silent Western film produced by Adolph Zukor and Jesse L. Lasky and released through Paramount Pictures. The film was directed by Lloyd Ingraham and starred cowboy star Fred Thomson whose wife Frances Marion wrote the scenario under the Pen name, nom de plume Frank M. Clifton. The film was a light approach on the life of the famous outlaw Jesse James and was not popular with a large segment of the audience. Jesse E. James, the outlaw's son, served as technical advisor on the film. Lloyd Ingraham
Lloyd Chauncey Ingraham (November 30, 1874 – April 4, 1956) was an American film actor and director. Biography Born in Rochelle, Illinois, Ingraham appeared in more than 280 films between 1912 and 1950, as well as directing more than 100 films between 1913 and 1930. Films for which he is known include ''Scaramouche (1923 film), Scaramouche'' (1923), ''The Padrone's Ward'' (1914) and ''Rainbow Valley (film), Rainbow Valley'' (1935). He performed in several films with John Wayne including ''Rainbow Valley (film), Rainbow Valley'' (1935), ''Empty Saddles'' (1936), ''Westward Ho (1935 film), Westward Ho'' (1935), ''The Lonely Trail'' (1936) and ''Conflict (1936 film), Conflict'' (1936). He died of pneumonia in the Motion Picture Hospital at Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, aged 81. His remains are buried in Chapel of the Pines Crematory. Mary Carr
Mary Carr (née Kenevan; March 14, 1874 – June 24, 1973), was an American film actress and was married to the actor William Carr. She appeared in more than 140 films from 1915 to 1956. She was given some of filmdoms plum mother roles in silent pictures, especially Fox's 1920 ''Over the Hill to the Poorhouse'', which was a great success. She was interred in Calvary Cemetery. Carr bore a strong resemblance to Lucy Beaumont, another famous character actress of the time who specialized in mother roles. As older actresses such as Mary Maurice and Anna Townsend passed on, Carr, still in her forties, seem to inherit all the matriarchal roles in silent films. Mary Carr appeared on the June 9, 1954 episode of the radio quiz program " You Bet Your Life", hosted by comedian Groucho Marx. The Carrs' oldest son, William, died at age two. Lost Film
A lost film is a feature film, feature or short film in which the original negative or copies are not known to exist in any studio archive, private collection, or public archive. Films can be wholly or partially lost for a number of reasons. Early films were not thought to have value beyond their theatrical run, so many were discarded afterward. Nitrate film used in early pictures was highly flammable and susceptible to degradation. The Library of Congress began acquiring copies of American films in 1909, but not all were kept. Due to improvements in film technology and recordkeeping, few films produced in the 1950s or beyond have been lost. John Morey Downs (October 10, 1913 – June 6, 1994) was an American actor, singer and dancer. He began his career as a child actor, most notably as Johnny in the ''Our Gang'' short comedy film series from 1923 to 1926. He remained active in films, television and theatre through the early 1960s. Early life Downs was born in New York City. His father was Lt. Morey Downs, an aviator with the U.S. Navy. When he was eight, the family moved to San Diego due to his father's transfer. Johnny's mother took him to Hollywood for an audition with the Hal Roach Studios. William Courtright
William Courtright (February 10, 1848 – March 6, 1933) was an American film actor. Early years He was born Theodore Courtright in New Milford, Illinois, and was educated in the public schools of Ione, California. When he was 16, he ran away from home to join a stock theater company. Career Courtright's acting career began with Shakespearean plays, as he worked with Lawrence Barrett. Before entering the film industry, he appeared in minstrel shows. He made a world tour as a minstrel, with the tour's activities including performing before King Edward VII. Sometimes billed as Billy Courtright, he appeared in 68 films between 1912 and 1930. He worked with D. W. Griffith and in his later career at the Hal Roach Studios, where he appeared in several early Laurel and Hardy comedies. Courtright was still acting at age 80. Robert Ford (outlaw)
Robert Newton Ford (December 8, 1861 – June 8, 1892) was an American outlaw who killed fellow outlaw Jesse James on April 3, 1882. He and his brother Charles Ford (outlaw), Charley, both members of the James–Younger Gang under James's leadership, went on to perform paid re-enactments of the killing at publicity events. Ford went on to operate various Western saloon, saloons and dance halls in the West, before being killedat age 30by Edward Capehart O'Kelley in Creede, Colorado.
