Jess Baker (golfer)
Jess Baker (born 15 March 2003) is an English professional golfer from Newcastle upon Tyne, winner of the Women's Amateur Championship in 2022. Amateur career Baker grew up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and began playing golf at the age of eleven. She honed her skills at Northumberland Golf Club. In 2019, she started competing internationally with the England team. Individually, she tied for third at the English Girls' Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, the Fairhaven Trophy, and the English Women's Amateur Championship the same year. In June 2022, she won the 119th Women's Amateur Championship at Hunstanton, where she defeated Sweden's Louise Rydqvist, 4 and 3, in the 36-hole final. The Women's Amateur Championship, previously known as the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship, was founded in 1893 by the Ladies' Golf Union. It is organised by The R&A, which merged with the Ladies' Golf Union in 2017. The Women's and Men's Home Internationals are an amateur team golf championship for women and men, between the four Home Nations. Ireland are represented by the whole island of Ireland.The event is organised by The R&A. The inaugural event was held in 2022 and superseded separate Women's and Men's events. The 2023 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 11–15 July at Tawast Golf & Country Club in Hämeenlinna, Finland. It was the 40th women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. The European Ladies' Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for women organised by the European Golf Association. The inaugural event was held in 1959. It was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Format Currently, the championship is contested by up to 20 teams, each of 6 players. The format consists of two rounds of strokeplay, out of which the five lowest scores from each team's six players will count each day. The total addition of the five lowest scores will constitute the team's score and determine the teams qualified for the last three rounds of matchplay.
