Jerzy Jarniewicz
Jerzy Jarniewicz (Polish pronunciation: ; born 4 May 1958) is a Polish poet, literary critic, translator and essayist. He was awarded the 2022 Nike Award, the most important distinction in Polish literature as well as the Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis (2006). Life and career Born in Łowicz in 1958, he is a graduate of the Bolesław Prus High School No. 21 in Łódź. He studied English language and literature as well as philosophy at the University of Łódź and between 1984 and 1985 at the University of Oxford. He is an editor of the literary monthly ''Literatura na Świecie'' and published literary criticism articles in ''Tygodnik Powszechny'' and ''Gazeta Wyborcza'' as well as collaborated with such British literary magazines as ''Poetry Review'' and ''Areté''. He has taught English literature at the University of Łódź and the University of Warsaw. Łowicz
Łowicz is a town in central Poland with 27,436 inhabitants (2021). It is situated in the Łódź Voivodeship. Together with a nearby station of Bednary, Łowicz is a major rail junction of central Poland, where the line from Warsaw splits into two directions—towards Poznań, and Łódź. Also, the station Łowicz Main is connected through a secondary-importance line with Skierniewice. Łowicz was a residence of Polish Primate (bishop), primates in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. They served as regents when the town became a temporary "capital" of Poland during the interregnum. Collegium Invisibile is an Learned society, academic society founded in 1995 in Warsaw, Poland, Warsaw that affiliates outstanding Polish students in the humanities and science with distinguished scholars in accordance with the idea of a liberal education. Gdynia Literary Prize
Gdynia Literary Prize () is a Polish literary prize, which is awarded annually to authors of the best books published in the previous year in the prose, poetry, essay and (since 2014) translation categories. It was established in 2006 by Wojciech Szczurek, mayor of Gdynia, who stated that "The idea of Gdynia Literary Prize is to honour unique achievements of contemporary literature, contemporary Polish authors which shall determine a strong and also permanent impulse to further intensify activities in literature and art in its broad meaning".
