Jersey Half Marathon
The Jersey Half Marathon (currently known as the "Run Jersey Half Marathon") is an annual half marathon staged in the north west of Jersey, Channel Islands. History The event was organised by the Jersey Hash House Harriers from 1989, until 2011. Run Jersey took over organising the event from 2012. The course The course is set over the parishes of St. John, St. Lawrence, St. Mary, and St. Ouen. A half marathon is a road running event of —half the distance of a marathon. It is common for a half marathon event to be held concurrently with a marathon or a 5K race, using almost the same course with a late start, an early finish or shortcuts. St Lawrence (; Jèrriais: ) is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey in the Channel Islands. It is located west of St Helier. The parish covers 5,258 vergées (9.5 km2) and occupies the centre of the Island. St Lawrence Village is also the name of a village in the parish. Much of the parish is inland, though it has a short stretch of coastline in St Aubin's Bay. It borders St Peter and St Mary to the west, St John to the north and east, and St Helier to the east. Saint Ouen, Jersey
St Ouen (Jèrriais and ) is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey in the Channel Islands. It is around north-west of St Helier. It has a population of 4,097. The parish is the largest parish by surface area, covering 8,525 vergées (15 km2), and is located in part on a peninsula. The parish is largely agricultural. There is no single centre as the church, parish hall and school are separated, however St Ouen's Village is the most significant settlement in the parish. The parish hosts the northernmost section of its namesake bay, which sweeps from the north to the south of the island. It is a distinct parish culturally. Jersey Marathon
The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is an annual marathon staged in Jersey, Channel Islands, first held in 2006. History The inaugural event on 8 October 2006 was the first marathon staged in Jersey for 20 years. It attracted approximately 300 runners, and was won by Garry Payne in a time of 2:44:32. The 2011 marathon attracted over 300 off-island runners, and saw 352 finishers in the main event. The 2020 in-person edition of the race was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, with all entries automatically transferred to 2021. In its own right Jersey participates in the Commonwealth Games and in the bi-annual Island Games, which it last hosted in 2015. Jersey is a founder member of the Island Games Association and has participated in every Games since the first in 1985. Jersey first competed in 1958 in the British Empire and Commonwealth Games and has since participated in every staging of what became the Commonwealth Games. Youth sports participation includes the Commonwealth Youth Games and Jeux des Isles. In sporting events in which Jersey does not have international representation, when the British Home Nations are competing separately, islanders that do have high athletic skill may choose to compete for any of the Home Nations.
