Jerome Schottenstein
Jerome Meyer Schottenstein (; March 5, 1926 – March 10, 1992) was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. Biography Jerome Schottenstein was born to a Jewish family, the son of Ephrayim Schottenstein, a Lithuanian Jewish immigrant, and Anna Schottenstein. In 1917, Ephraim opened a retail shop on South Parsons Avenue on Columbus, Ohio’s south side. The department store would later be expanded by the next generation of Schottensteins, Ephraim and Anna’s four sons: Leon, Saul, Jerome, and Alvin. Jerome attended the Yeshiva University school for boys. After graduation, he joined his family's business which became Schottenstein Stores Corp. Holdings included Schottenstein’s Stores, Value City Furniture, American Eagle Outfitters, Designer Shoe Warehouse, and Consolidated Stores (later known as Big Lots). Soncino Press is a Jewish publishing company based in the United Kingdom that has published a variety of books of Jewish interest, most notably English translations and commentaries to the Talmud and Hebrew Bible. The Soncino Hebrew Bible and Talmud translations and commentaries were widely used in both Orthodox and Conservative synagogues until the advent of other translations beginning in the 1990s. Acceptance The Soncino translations and commentaries are based, largely, on traditional Jewish sources. Value City Arena is a multi-purpose arena, located on the campus of Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The arena opened in 1998 and is currently the largest by seating capacity in the Big Ten Conference, with 19,049 seats, which is reduced to 18,809 for Ohio State men's and women’s basketball games. It is home to Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball, women's basketball and men's ice hockey teams. Previously, the basketball teams played at St. John Arena, while the ice hockey team played at the OSU Ice Arena.
