Jeremy Summers (18 August 1931 – 14 December 2016) was a British television director and film director, known for directing television series such as ''The Saint (TV series), The Saint'' and films such as ''Five Golden Dragons'', ''The House of 1,000 Dolls'', and ''The Vengeance of Fu Manchu''. Background Born in St Albans in 1931, Summers was born into a family of theatrical tradition and his father Walter Summers (1896-1973) was a film director and screenwriter. St Albans, Hertfordshire
St Albans () is a cathedral city in Hertfordshire, England, east of Hemel Hempstead and west of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, Hatfield, north-west of London, south-west of Welwyn Garden City and south-east of Luton. ''Ferry Cross the Mersey'' is a 1964 British musical film directed by Jeremy Summers and starring Gerry and the Pacemakers. It was written by David Franden from a story by Tony Warren. The film tells the story of a group of art students as they humorously try to navigate the Liverpool beat scene. After the group enters a music competition, their instruments are misplaced but are ultimately found in time for them to take the stage and win the contest. It is frequently considered to be Gerry and the Pacemakers' version of the Beatles' ''A Hard Day's Night''. Gerry And The Pacemakers
Gerry and the Pacemakers were an English beat group prominent in the 1960s Merseybeat scene. In common with the Beatles, they came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein and recorded by George Martin. Their early successes helped make popular the Merseybeat sound and launch the wider British beat boom of the mid-1960s They were the first act to reach number one in the UK Singles Chart with its first three single releases: " How Do You Do It?", " I Like It" and "You'll Never Walk Alone". This record was not equalled for 20 years, until the mid-1980s success of fellow Liverpool band Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Kenneth Charles Cope (14 April 1931 – 11 September 2024) was an English actor and scriptwriter. He was best known for his roles as Marty Hopkirk in '' Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)'', Jed Stone in ''Coronation Street,'' Ray Hilton in '' Brookside'', Sid in '' The Damned'' and as a minor member of the ''Carry On'' team. Early life Kenneth Cope was born on 14 April 1931 in Wavertree, Liverpool (at the time in Lancashire, now in Merseyside), England. Career After training to be an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Cope began playing character roles in films from the mid-1950s, and between 1961 and 1966 gained attention for his regular role in ''Coronation Street'' as the shady Jed Stone, a part he returned to in 2008. William Thomas Clucas (14 April 19258 July 2016), better known as William Lucas, was an English film, theatre, radio and television actor. Early years William Lucas was born in Manchester, England. Before he became an actor, he was a commercial traveller, laundry hand, cook, farm labourer, and long-distance lorry driver, and served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. Career Lucas earned a scholarship to the Northern Theatre School, and trained there. He then became an assistant stage manager at the Chesterfield Civic Theatre in the late 1940s.
