The Bartered Bride
''The Bartered Bride'' (, ''The Sold Bride'') is a comic opera in three acts by the Czech composer BedÅ™ich Smetana, to a libretto by Karel Sabina. The work is generally regarded as a major contribution towards the development of Czech music. It was composed during the period 1863 to 1866, and first performed at the Provisional Theatre (Prague), Provisional Theatre, Prague, on 30 May 1866 in a two-act format with spoken dialogue. Set in a country village and with realistic characters, it tells the story of how, after a late surprise revelation, true love prevails over the combined efforts of ambitious parents and a scheming marriage broker. The opera was not immediately successful, and was revised and extended in the following four years. In its final version, premiered in 1870, it rapidly gained popularity and eventually became a worldwide success. Jan JenÃk (born 15 September 2000) is a Czech professional ice hockey centre for the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected 65th overall in the 2018 NHL entry draft by the Arizona Coyotes. Playing career JenÃk split his first season in the Czech Republic with HC Benátky nad Jizerou of the 1st Czech Republic Hockey League and HC BÃlà TygÅ™i Liberec of the Czech Extraliga. He did the same in his final year in Czechia. JenÃk was selected by the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in the first round, sixth overall of the 2018 CHL import draft. His rights were traded to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the OHL on 7 January 2019 for a pair of draft picks. In his first season with Hamilton he scored 13 goals and 30 points in 27 games. John Joseph Jenik (born March 7, 1944) is an American prelate of the Catholic Church, Roman Catholic Church who served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York from 2014 to 2018. His ministerial privileges were suspended in October 2018, pending Vatican investigation of a sexual abuse allegation. On October 10, 2019, Pope Francis accepted Jenik's resignation, a normal practice when a bishop reaches his 75th birthday. He was educated at Immaculate Conception School in Manhattan and Cathedral Preparatory School and Seminary, Cathedral College High School in Queens, New York.
