Jens Andreas Hjorth Bugge
Jens Andreas Hjorth Bugge (20 June 1859 – 8 November 1939) was a Norwegian ship-owner. Personal life He was born in Mandal as a son of ship-owner Jørgen Ørbech Bugge (1829–1888) and Guriane Olsen. He was a brother of priest Christian August Bugge, Supreme Court Justice Geirulf Bugge and civil servant Erling Bugge. Through them he was an uncle of barrister Heuch Bugge, art historian Anders Ragnar Bugge and tax director Karl Ludvig Bugge. In 1906 he married editor's daughter Dagmar Nathalie Næss. Career He attended school in Mandal, and worked in the same city as a merchant from 1886. From 1890 until his retirement in 1927 he was a ship-owner. He also became a municipal politician, was a board member of Mandals og Oplands Privatbank and supervisory council member of Mandals Sparebank, and was a consular agent for France. Mandal, Norway
Mandal is a town in Lindesnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. Mandal is the fourth largest town in Agder as well as the administrative centre of Lindesnes municipality. It is located at the mouth of the river Mandalselva at the southern end of the Mandalen valley. The town has a population (2019) of 11,053 and a population density of . ''Merkantilt biografisk leksikon: hvem er hvem i næringslivet?'' ( en, Mercantile Biographical Encyclopedia: Who is Who in the Enterprise?) was a Norwegian-language encyclopedia published by Yrkesforlaget in 1935. It featured approximately 10,000 short biographical entries for Norwegian businesspeople, and was edited by Einar Hoffstad (1894–1959). It was printed by Grøndahl & Søns Boktrykkeri. The purpose of the encyclopedia was to "remedy the need to know something about the individuals one is trading with". The entries contain little genealogical information, and the parents of the portrayed businesspeople are not included. Abbreviations are used extensively to save space and money. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. Karl Ludvig Bugge
Karl Ludvig Erlingsøn Bugge (7 April 1902 – 29 January 1981) was a Norwegian civil servant. Personal life He was born in Kristiania as a son of civil servant Erling Bugge (1867–1957) and Signe Bugge (1867–1941). This was the Mandal lineage of the Bugge family. He was a nephew of priest Christian August Bugge, Supreme Court Justice Geirulf Bugge and ship-owner Jens Andreas Hjorth Bugge, and a first cousin of barrister Heuch Bugge and art historian Anders Ragnar Bugge. In 1925 he married Anne Beate Evang, a sister of Karl Evang. Career He finished his secondary education in 1920, and graduated from the Royal Frederick University with the cand.jur. degree in 1924. He served as a deputy judge from 1925 to 1927, then as a secretary in Riksskattestyret. He was promoted to office manager in 1935, subdiretor in 1946 and ultimately served as director of the Norwegian Tax Administration (Tax Director) from 1948 to 1969.
