Jenny Xie
Jenny Xie is an American poet and educator. She is the author of ''Eye Level'', winner of the 2018 Walt Whitman Award of the Academy of American Poets and a finalist for the National Book Award in 2018, and of '' The Rupture Tense'', a finalist for the National Book Award in 2022. Biography Jenny Xie was born in Anhui, China. She was raised in North Brunswick, New Jersey, and graduated from North Brunswick Township High School. She received an undergraduate degree at Princeton University and earned a graduate degree from New York University. Xie's chapbook, ''Nowhere to Arrive'', was published by Northwestern University Press in 2017 and won the 2016 Drinking Gourd Chapbook Poetry Prize. Xie's poetry collection, ''Eye Level'', was published by Graywolf Press in 2018. Xie was named winner of the Walt Whitman award given by the Academy of American Poets in 2018. ''Eye Level: Poems'' is a 2018 debut poetry collection by Jenny Xie. It was published by Graywolf Press after Juan Felipe Herrera selected Xie's manuscript for the Walt Whitman Award in 2017. After publication, the book was nominated for several awards and won a few prizes including the Levis Reading Prize. Content The book follows a speaker and their travels through the world as they arrive in destinations like Phnom Penh, Hanoi, and Corfu. The poem's themes include selfhood; isolation; borders; and racial, ethnic, and national identities, among others. Critical reception The book won the 22nd Levis Reading Prize and the Holmes Poetry Prize. The book also was a finalist for the National Book Award for Poetry and the PEN Open Book Award. The National Book Festival is an annual literary festival held in Washington, D.C. in the United States; it is organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress, and was founded by Laura Bush and James H. PEN Oakland Awards
The PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award is for U.S. multicultural writers, to "promote works of excellence by writers of all cultural and racial backgrounds and to educate both the public and the media as to the nature of multicultural work."
