Jenny Wood-Allen
Jenny Wood-Allen MBE (20 November 1911 – 30 December 2010) was a Scottish councillor who became a marathon runner at the age of 71. She went on to run more than 50 marathons and became a Guinness World Record holder as the oldest female marathon finisher in 1999, aged 87. She was awarded an MBE in 2004 for services to charity and distance running. Early life Wood-Allen was born Janet Soutar on 20 November 1911 in Dundee. Her parents were Margaret Kinnear and James Soutar, a chauffeur. She was one of six children and the family was not well off. London Marathon
The London Marathon (also known as the TCS London Marathon for sponsorship reasons) is an annual marathon held in London, England. Founded by athletes Chris Brasher and John Disley in 1981, it is typically held in April, although it moved to October for 2020, 2021, and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The largely flat course is set around the River Thames, starting in Blackheath, London, Blackheath and finishing at The Mall, London, The Mall. Hugh Brasher (son of Chris) is the current race director and Nick Bitel its chief executive. Douglas and Angus (commonly referred to as Douglas) is an area of Eastern Dundee, Scotland. It is located between Whitfield, Dundee, Whitfield to the North and Broughty Ferry to the East. Toastmasters International (TI) is a US-headquartered nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping people develop communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. History On 24 March 1905, Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, a 1903 graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University, who was also the educational director for Bloomington YMCA in Illinois, started a club in a dinner meeting, to train young boys and men in speech, to face an audience, and to express their thoughts.
