Jeffrey Spender (judge)
Jeffrey Ernest John Spender is a former Judge of the Federal Court of Australia that served from 17 May 1984 to 19 July 2010. Jeff Spender graduated from the University of Queensland in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science, with honours in Mathematics. From 1967 until 1984 he practised at the Queensland Bar. In 1968 he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Queensland. In 1972 Spender graduated from the University of London with a Master of Laws. In 1983, he was appointed Queen's Counsel. Spender served as a presidential member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and as a judge of the Industrial Relations Court of Australia. Duncan Spender
Duncan Peter James Spender (born 18 June 1975) is a former Australian politician. He briefly served as a Senator for New South Wales in 2019, filling a casual vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator David Leyonhjelm of the Liberal Democrats. He had previously been Leyonhjelm's chief of staff. Early life Spender was born in Brisbane. He is the son of former Federal Court (and Industrial Court) judge, Jeffrey Spender. Spender was a founding member of the Liberal Democratic Party in 2001. Before his appointment to the Senate, Spender worked as Leyonhjelm's chief of staff and senior adviser, and as the party's treasurer. Senate Spender was appointed to the Senate on 20 March 2019, following Leyonhjelm's decision to resign to contest the Legislative Council at the 2019 New South Wales state election. Supreme Court Of The Australian Capital Territory
The Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory is the highest court of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). It has unlimited jurisdiction within the territory in civil matters and hears the most serious criminal matters. The court has the jurisdictional power to hear matters that relate to the Jervis Bay Territory, the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands, although it has never heard a case exercising its power over the Heard and McDonald Islands. It also hears matters on appeal from the Magistrates Court of the Australian Capital Territory. Court Of Appeal Of The Kingdom Of Tonga
The Court of Appeal of Tonga is the supreme court in Tonga for all criminal and most civil matters. It hears criminal and civil appeals from the Supreme Court and also hears appeals from the Land Court. Jurisdiction An appeal from the Supreme Court to the Court of Appeal can be made as of by right unless it is a civil matter and the amount in dispute does not exceed T$1000. Orders made by consent, orders regarding costs, and interlocutory decisions also cannot be heard by the Court of Appeal without leave of the Court.
