Jeffrey J. Funke
Jeffrey J. Funke (born April 15, 1969) is an American lawyer who has served as the chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court since 2024. He previously served as an associate justice on the court from 2016 to 2024 Biography Funke received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1991 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1994. After graduating law school Funke worked in private practice, served as a county attorney and as a deputy public defender. State court service Funke served as a county court judge from 2007 to 2013 in Otoe and Sarpy Counties, and as a district court judge in Otoe and Cass Counties from 2013 to 2016. He was appointed county court judge in 2007 and district court judge in 2013 by former Governor Dave Heineman. Nebraska Supreme Court
The Nebraska Supreme Court is the highest court in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The court consists of a chief justice and six associate justices. Each justice is initially appointed by the governor of Nebraska; using the Missouri Plan, each justice is then subject to a retention vote for additional six-year terms. The six associate justices each represent a Supreme Court district; the chief justice is appointed (and retained) at-large. Dave Heineman
David Eugene Heineman (born May 12, 1948) is an American politician who served as the 39th governor of Nebraska from 2005 to 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he was the 39th treasurer of Nebraska from 1995 to 2001 and 37th lieutenant governor of Nebraska from 2001 to 2005 under governor Mike Johanns. Heineman took over the governorship after Johanns resigned to become the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Heineman won full four-year terms in the 2006 and 2010 elections. Due to this, he is the longest-serving Nebraska Governor with just under 10 years of service. Heineman was barred by term limits from seeking a third full four-year term in 2014 as the Constitution of Nebraska prohibits governors from seeking a third term. James Douglas Pillen (born December 31, 1955) is an American politician, veterinarian, and livestock producer serving as the 41st and current governor of Nebraska since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, Pillen served on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents from 2013 to 2023. Early life and education Pillen was born in Columbus, Nebraska, to Dale and Dorothy Pillen. His parents were farmers. Dale Pillen served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
