His piano-based folk/roots musical style has drawn comparisons to Kris Kristofferson, Elton John, Neil Young, and Rufus Wainwright Biography Early life Jeffery Straker was raised on a grain farm near Punnichy, Saskatchewan and grew up in a musical household. He started piano lessons with local music teacher Mrs Vicky Young and was subsequently taught by Dawn MacTavish. Further piano studies were pursued with Frank Crumly at the Conservatory of Music, University of Regina in his senior years of high school earning his Licentiate diploma from Trinity College London when he was 19. Punnichy, Saskatchewan
Punnichy ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Mount Hope No. 279 and Census Division No. 10. It is northeast of the City of Regina. This village is part of the original " Alphabet Line" of the main Canadian National Railway line with Lestock to the east and Quinton to the west (the M, N, O towns have long since been deserted). Punnichy derived its name from , "fledgling bird with few feathers", a Saulteaux joke referring to the appearance of a pioneer merchant. Punnichy is along Highway 15 in the heart of the Touchwood Hills between Quinton and Lestock. It is surrounded by four First Nation reserves: Muskowekwan, Kawacatoose, Daystar and Gordon. Danny Michel is a Canadian artist, songwriter and producer. Michel (Mish-elle) is a multi-Juno and Polaris Music Prize nominated songwriter from Ontario, Canada. Michel began making solo records in the 1990s after being a member of many bands, including the power-pop trio Starling.
