Jefferson (Pacific State)
The State of Jefferson is a proposed U.S. state that would span the contiguous, mostly rural area of Southern Oregon and Northern California, where several attempts to separate from Oregon and California, respectively, have taken place. The region encompasses most of Northern California's land but does not include San Francisco or other Bay Area counties that account for the majority of Northern California's population. Historians and locals cite Thomas Jefferson's status as the primary author of the Declaration of Independence as the origin of the name for the proposed state, with the line "governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed" as evidence of a breakdown of the social contract between the state governments and the region's population. 51st State
"51st state" is a phrase used in the United States of America to refer to the idea of adding an additional state to the current 50-state Union. Proposals for a 51st state may include granting statehood to one of the U.S. territories or Washington, D.C., splitting an existing state, or annexing part or all of a sovereign country. The U.S. has not admitted any new states to the union since 1959, when both Alaska (on January 3, 1959) and Hawaii (on August 21, 1959) were admitted. Stanton Delaplane
Stanton Hill ("Stan") Delaplane (12 October 1907 – 18 April 1988) was an American travel writer, credited with introducing Irish coffee to the United States. Called "last of the old irreplaceables" by fellow-columnist Herb Caen, he worked for the ''San Francisco Chronicle'' for 53 years, winning a Pulitzer Prize for reporting in 1942. San Francisco Chronicle
The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. Randolph Collier
Randolph Collier (July 26, 1902 – August 2, 1983) was a member of the California State Senate. He was Senator from California's 2nd senatorial district from 1939 to 1967, and from the First District from 1967 to 1976. Initially a member of the Republican Party, he moved to the Democratic Party in 1959.
