Jeff Simmons (musician)
Jeffrey Lael Simmons is an American rock musician, best known as a former member of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Career Simmons provided bass, guitar, vocals and harmonica for The Mothers of Invention during 1970 and 1971. He left the Mothers in early 1971 just prior to the filming of '' 200 Motels'' (where he was replaced by Ringo Starr's chauffeur Martin Lickert). Simmons later returned to the Mothers occasionally during the period of 1972 to 1974. Zappa and Mothers albums he appeared on include '' Chunga's Revenge'' (1970), '' Waka/Jawaka'' (1972) and '' Roxy & Elsewhere'' (1974). In later years Zappa released a number of archival recordings that feature Simmons including '' You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 1'' (1988), '' You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 6'' (1992), and '' Playground Psychotics'' (1992). Mothers Of Invention
The Mothers of Invention (also known as the Mothers) were an American rock band from California. Formed in 1964, their work is marked by the use of sonic experimentation, innovative album art, and elaborate live shows. Originally an R&B band called the Soul Giants, the band's first lineup comprised Ray Collins, David Coronado, Ray Hunt, Roy Estrada, and Jimmy Carl Black. Frank Zappa was asked to take over as the guitarist when a fight between Collins and Hunt led to the latter's being fired. Zappa insisted they perform his original material—a decision that resulted in Coronado's leaving because he did not agree to the change—and on Mother's Day in 1965 the band changed its name to the Mothers. Shrine Auditorium
The Shrine Auditorium is a landmark large-event venue in Los Angeles, California. It is also the headquarters of the Al Malaikah Temple, a division of the Shriners. It was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (No. 139) in 1975, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. History Opened in 1926, the current Shrine Auditorium replaced an earlier 1906 Al Malaikah Temple which had been destroyed by a fire on January 11, 1920. The fire gutted the structure in just 30 minutes, and nearly killed six firefighters in the process. In the late 1960s, the Shrine was referred to as "The Pinnacle" by the audiences of rock concerts. ''Zoot Allures'' is the 22nd album by the American rock musician Frank Zappa, released in October 1976. It was his only release on the Warner Bros. Records label. Due to financial and legal disputes with his former manager Herb Cohen, Zappa had his recording contract briefly reassigned from DiscReet to Warner Bros. Cohen quickly filed a lawsuit against Warner and Zappa based on the claim that this reassignment was in violation of previous contracts. Therefore, the final four albums of Zappa's recording contract were reassigned back to DiscReet. Title The title is a pun on the French expression " Zut alors!", which conveys "''dammit!''" ''Mojo'' (stylised in all caps) is a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom, initially by Emap, and since January 2008 by Bauer. Chris Huston
Christopher John Huston (born 25 June 1943) is a British born record engineer, record producer and guitarist. Huston arrived in Wallasey, near Liverpool, toward the end of World War II from an orphanage in North Wales. As a teenager he began studies at the Liverpool College of Art, where he became friends with John Lennon and, like Lennon, began copying the American R&B music imported through the city. In 1961 he joined The Undertakers, one of the leading local Merseybeat bands, as lead guitarist, shortly before Jackie Lomax joined as the group's singer. The Undertakers released a string of singles in the early 1960s and toured widely, but had little chart success. They split up in the United States in 1965, and Huston stayed behind. ''Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up'' is the debut album of American musician Jeff Simmons. Released in 1969, the album was produced by Frank Zappa, who wrote two songs for the album under the pseudonym "La Marr Bruister". The album features musicians Craig Tarwater and John Kehlior, both of whom had previously been members of the Seattle group The Daily Flash. ''Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up'' was described as the second best album on the Straight Records label by Mojo Magazine. In 2007, it was re-issued on CD by World In Sound Records. Wild Man Fischer
Lawrence Wayne "Wild Man" Fischer (November 6, 1944 – June 16, 2011) was an American street performer known for offering erratic, a cappella performances of "new kinds of songs" for a dime on the beaches of Los Angeles County and the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. Most of his life was spent homeless or institutionalized, and he later became regarded as "the godfather of outsider music". Born in Los Angeles, Fischer was repeatedly sent to mental institutions as a teenager, where he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In 1968, he recorded a double album, '' An Evening with Wild Man Fischer'', that was produced by Frank Zappa for the Bizarre label. The GTOs (Girls Together Outrageously) were an all-girl group from the Los Angeles area, specifically the Sunset Strip scene.
