Jeff Longwell
Jeff Longwell (born June 15, 1960) is an American politician and businessman who served as the 101st mayor of Wichita, Kansas from 2015 to 2020. Prior to his election as mayor, Longwell served eight years on the Wichita city council and twelve years on the Maize school board. 2015 Wichita Mayoral Election
The 2015 Wichita mayoral election took place on April 7, 2015, to elect the List of mayors of Wichita, Kansas, mayor of Wichita, Kansas. The election was held concurrently with various other local elections, and is officially nonpartisan. Incumbent mayor Carl Brewer (politician), Carl Brewer, a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, was term-limited and could not seek a third term in office. Carl Brewer (March 8, 1957June 12, 2020) was an American politician who served as the 100th mayor of Wichita, Kansas, and was the city's first elected black mayor. He was elected to the mayoralty in 2007 and reelected in 2011. He was a member of the Democratic Party and ran for the party's gubernatorial nomination in 2018. Early life and education Carl Brewer was born on March 8, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas. In 1975, he graduated from North High School and briefly attended Friends University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Southern University. From 1977 to 1998, he served in the Kansas Army National Guard and retired as a captain. In 1980, Brewer married Cathy Brewer and the couple had four children. Career From 2001 to 2007, Brewer served in the Wichita city council from District 1.
