Geoff Holt (artist)
Geoff Holt (1942–1998) was a British artist. Born in Wokingham and raised in South London, Holt was active artistically from 1965–1998, first at Notting Hill and later living and working in Devon until his death. Holt started his professional career in Bayswater selling to tourists from the railings at Hyde Park. Thus his work spread worldwide; an example is the hand colored print "The Hunter", discovered and restored in New Zealand. Biography Holt was born in Wokingham and grew up impoverished in South London. His talent was spotted at 13 with an entry into Camberwell School of Art. He left at 18. Holt started selling his paintings around the early 1960s on Bayswater Road. Many minor drawings and large oil paintings were produced, resulting in small exhibitions. He then spent some years at the Portobello market with hand crafted chess set reproductions. Geoff Holt (sailor)
Geoffrey Trevor Marden Holt (born 24 February 1966) is an English sailor from Portsmouth, Hampshire. Paralysed in an accident at the age of eighteen, in 2007, he became the first quadriplegic yachtsman to sail solo around Great Britain. In September 2007, Holt completed his sail around the UK in his trimaran dinghy ''Freethinker'', becoming the first severely disabled person to make the journey. In December 2007, he was named BBC South Sports Personality of the Year. In 2008, Holt wrote his autobiography ''Walking on Water''. In December 2009, he set out to cross the Atlantic Ocean on his yacht the ''Impossible Dream'', aiming to become the first quadriplegic to do so. He succeeded in the crossing, arriving on 7 January 2010.
