Jef Van Meirhaeghe
Jef Van Meirhaeghe (born 23 January 1992) is a Belgian road cyclist, who most recently rode for Belgian amateur team CT Stroobant–Bataia. Van Meirhaeghe has also competed professionally for in 2015 and 2016. Career Amateur career As a junior, Van Meirhaeghe won the 2010 Junior Tour of Flanders. After a year riding for the Soenens–Construkt Glas team, he rode for the team from 2012 to 2014. In May 2014, he finished in the top ten of the Paris–Arras Tour, his best stage-race result to that point. In July 2014, he finished on the podium of the under-23 edition of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, having been in a breakaway with the eventual race winner, Dimitri Claeys. During this time he rode principally as a '' domestique'' for other riders, rarely having a chance to race for himself. In August 2014, Van Meirhaeghe became the under-23 Belgian national road race champion, winning the race in a solo breakaway despite a gear-shift problem. Nokere Koerse is a European semi classic single day cycle race held in the Belgian region of Flanders. Since 2005, the race has been organized as a 1.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. Starting in 2016 it was a 1.HC event. Belgian National Road Race Championships
The Belgian National Road Race Championship is a cycling race which decides who will become Belgian national champion for the year to come. The record for most wins is currently held by one of the most successful Belgian sprinters, Tom Steels, who managed to take four road championship titles. The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey, which is black, yellow and red, like the national flag. These colours can be worn by the rider at other road racing events to show their status as national champion.
