Jean Scharfenberg
Jean Scharfenberg (August 19, 1922 - August 2 1998) was a professor of theatre at Illinois State University. Her students included Jane Lynch, Rondi Reed, Laurie Metcalf, Tom Irwin, and John Malkovich. Early life and education Scharfenberg was born in Davenport, Iowa, and earned her undergraduate degree at University of Central Missouri University. She then earned her masters degree and doctoral degree in theater from the University of Wisconsin. While at the University of Wisconsin, she earned a federal grant to work with Lee Strasberg. Career Scharfenberg joined the ISU faculty in 1966. She was known among students for her class, "Acting: Exploring Characterization Through Animal Exercises" in which students developed the persona of an animal and then enacted a violent death scene at the end of the semester. Rondi Anne Reed (born October 26, 1952) is an American actress of stage and screen. A longtime member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, she has appeared in more than 50 productions at that theater. Lee Strasberg
Lee Strasberg (born Israel Strassberg; November 17, 1901 – February 17, 1982) was an American acting coach and actor. He co-founded, with theatre directors Harold Clurman and Cheryl Crawford, the Group Theatre in 1931, which was hailed as "America's first true theatrical collective". In 1951, he became director of the nonprofit Actors Studio in New York City, considered "the nation's most prestigious acting school," and, in 1966, he was involved in the creation of Actors Studio West in Los Angeles. Cal Pritner
Cal Pritner (1935 - December 1, 2014), was an educator, writer, administrator, and actor. He chaired two university theatre departments (University of Missouri-Kansas City, 1994–2000) and Illinois State University (1970–1981), and he was the founding artistic director of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival (1978–1990). He is an elected Fellow of the College of Fellows of the American Theatre. He is the author and co-author of three instructional television series on Shakespeare and poetry; he co-authored Page to Stage: Julius Caesar, which won the Wilbur Schramm award as best American instructional series of 1991.
