Jean De Létraz
Jean de Létraz, pen name of Jean Félix Deletraz, (23 February 1897 - 3 June 1954) was a French playwright, spécialising in vaudeville, who authored nearly 118 plays, among which the most famous is ''Bichon'' written in 1935. Biography His first of more than 100 plays was ''Opium'', a one-act play starring Sarah Bernhardt during World War I. As well as ''Bichon'' (1935), other popular plays of his included ''On demande un ménage'' (1942), ''Descendez, on vous demande'' (1946), ''Moumou'' (1944) and ''La Fessée'' (1936). He was also a screenwriter and a dialoguist. A good number of his plays have been adapted to film. From 1942 until his death, he was managing director of the Théâtre du Palais-Royal where he directed both his own plays and others. He was also a vice-president of a Paris theatre managers' organization. His wife, Simone, took over the managing of the theatre up to 1965 and staged some of his posthumous works. The 4th arrondissement of Paris (''IVe arrondissement'') is one of the twenty arrondissements of the capital city of France. In spoken French, this arrondissement is referred to as ''quatrième''. The Théâtre Saint-Georges is a theatre in the French capital Paris, located on the Rue Saint-Georges from which it takes its name. Gideon Wahlberg
Gideon Wahlberg (18 June 1890 – 3 May 1948) was a Swedish actor, screenwriter, film director and theater manager. Wahlberg directed six films including '' South of the Highway'' (1936). Wahlberg was the theater manager of the Arbisteatern in Norrköping from 1918-1931 and 1933–1934. Biography Wahlberg was the son of a tailor and grew up with several siblings in Östermalm in Stockholm. He made his stage debut as a 15-year-old and was director of the Arbisteatern in Norrköping 1918-1931 and 1933-1934. Johannes Guter
Johannes Guter (born Jānis Gūters; 25 April 1882 – 18 March 1962) was a Latvian-born German filmmaker, screenwriter, and occasional film producer. Although most of his work is now lost, he is considered a pioneer of German silent cinema and expressionism. Film career Born in Riga, Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire, Guter was educated at the Technical University in his home city and made a name for himself as a budding theatrical actor. After the Russian Revolution of 1905, he fled to Berlin in Germany, only to be arrested for the murder of a police officer when he returned to his homeland in 1907. In 1908, after bail was posted, he fled again before his trial, this time settling in Vienna. By 1910 he had directed his first play in Vienna, before moving to Frankfurt where he worked at the New Theatre as a director. Herbert Selpin (29 May 1904 – 1 August 1942) was a German film director and screenwriter of light entertainment during the 1930s and 1940s. He is best known for his final film, the partly suppressed ''Titanic'', during the production of which he was arrested by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. He was later found dead in his prison cell. Life and career Herbert Selpin was born on 29 May 1904 in Berlin. After his medical studies in the same city, Selpin worked as a dancer, boxer, librarian, and art seller before he obtained, in the mid-1920s, an internship at the prestigious UFA film studios. The Théâtre de l’Ambigu-Comique (, literally, Theatre of the Comic-Ambiguity), a former Parisian theatre, was founded in 1769 on the boulevard du Temple immediately adjacent to the Théâtre de Nicolet. It was rebuilt in 1770 and 1786, but in 1827 was destroyed by fire. A new, larger theatre with a capacity of 2,000 as compared to the earlier 1,250 was built nearby on the boulevard Saint-Martin at its intersection with the rue de Bondy and opened the following year.
