Desio
Desio () is a (municipality) in the province of Monza and Brianza, in the Italian region of Lombardy. History In 1277 it was the location of the battle between the Visconti and della Torre families for the rule of Milan. On 24 February 1924, Desio received the honorary title of city with a royal decree. In 1944 the opera singer Giuseppina Finzi-Magrini was killed in an American air raid on Desio. The town is known for being Pius XI’s birthplace, information which the road sign on Desio’s border recalls. In the centre, more precisely in Via Pio XI 4, tourists and citizens can visit the Pope’s house every Sunday. On November 20, 1998, it was instituted the International Studies and Documentation Center Pius XI, at the presence of Mgr. Maurizio Galli. Sovereign Military Order Of Malta
The Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM), officially the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta, and commonly known as the Order of Malta or the Knights of Malta, is a Catholic lay religious order, traditionally of a military, chivalric, and noble nature. Though it possesses no territory, the order is often considered a sovereign entity under international law. The Order traces its institutional continuity with the Knights Hospitaller, a chivalric order that was founded about 1099 by the Blessed Gerard in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. The order is led by an elected prince and grand master. Its motto is ("Defence of the faith and assistance to the poor"). Angelo De Mojana Di Cologna
Fra' Angelo de Mojana di Cologna (13 August 1905 – 18 January 1988) was an Italian nobleman, Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta from 1962 to 1988 who was born in Milan and died in Rome. De Mojana was received as a Knight of Honour and Devotion in the Order of Malta 7 December 1940. He took first vows as a Knight of Justice 28 March 1950 and made his solemn profession 1 April 1957. Throughout the 1950s De Mojana was the principal legal advisor to the Order of Malta in its negotiations with the Sacred Congregation for Religious. De Mojana was promoted to the rank of Commander of Justice 1 January 1960 and was given the Commandery Estense Reggiana. He was elected Grand Master 8 May 1962. Andrew Bertie
Andrew Willoughby Ninian Bertie (15 May 1929 – 7 February 2008) was Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta from 1988 until his death in 2008. On 20 February 2015 a formal inquiry for the cause of his beatification and canonisation was opened in Rome. Early career Bertie was born in London as the elder son of Hon. James Bertie (youngest son of the 7th Earl of Abingdon) and Lady Jean Crichton-Stuart (daughter of the 4th Marquess of Bute). He was the fifth cousin once removed of Queen Elizabeth II, by common descent from King George III and his wife Queen Charlotte Sophia. He was educated at the English Catholic public school, Ampleforth College, and graduated in Modern History from Christ Church, Oxford. He also attended the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London.
