Jean-Pierre Klein (born 24 January 1944 in Heisdorf) is a Luxembourgish politician for the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) and jurist. He has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies for the Centre constituency since the 1994 election. He is also the mayor of Steinsel Steinsel ( ) is a commune and town in central Luxembourg. It is located north of Luxembourg City. , the town of Steinsel, which lies in the west of the commune, has a population of 1,844. Other towns within the commune include Heisdorf and Mull ...: a position that he has held since 1 January 1988. Klein was not elected at the 2004 election, falling just short (in 5th place on the LSAP list, which won 4 seats in Centre). However, Robert Goebbels, who had placed third, resigned his office before the new Chamber was sworn in, allowing the next-placed Klein to take his place. Robert Goebbels (born 3 April 1944) is a former politician in Luxembourg, and a former Member of the European Parliament for the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party, part of the Party of European Socialists. Goebbels started his career as one of the editors in charge of international affairs in a Luxembourg daily. From 1972 to 1974 he was elected three times chairman of the Luxembourg Association of Journalists. Goebbels’ political career started as president of the Young Socialists in 1969. He was elected secretary general of the Luxembourg Socialist Party in 1971 and regularly re-elected up to 1984. In 1976 Goebbels was elected to the City Council of Luxembourg, and re-elected later on for 3 additional mandates. The ruling Christian Social People's Party (CSV) of Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker won the election, increasing its number of seats to its highest since before 1989 and its share of the vote to levels not seen since the 1959 election. As expected, the CSV won a plurality of seats, adding 5 new deputies, and continued as the majority partner in the coalition government. However, the junior partner changed from the liberal Democratic Party (DP), which lost 5 seats, to the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), which gained one seat.
