Jean-Paul Besset
Jean-Paul Besset (born 1946 in Chamalières, Puy-de-Dôme) is a French politician and environmentalist. An original member of the Revolutionary Communist League (France), Revolutionary Communist League (LCR), he stayed in the LCR for eleven years, from its launch in 1974 until 1985. As a founder of the Europe Écologie coalition in 2008, he was selected to lead the Europe Écologie list in the Loire, Massif Central (European Parliament constituency), Massif Central constituency ahead of the 2009 European Parliament election in France, 2009 European elections. During the 2014 European Parliament election in France, 2014 European elections, his list receives 6,88% of the vote, down from the 13,58% of 2009, his party losing its only seat in the Loire, Massif Central (European Parliament constituency), Massif Central constituency and his party going nationally from 12 in 2009 to 6 European seats after the elections. Chamalières
Chamalières (; Auvergnat: ) is a commune in the Puy-de-Dôme department, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, central France. With 17,276 inhabitants (2019), Chamalières is the fourth-largest town in the department. It lies adjacent to the west of Clermont-Ferrand and about from Lyon. History Several thousand wooden Gallo-Roman ex-votos, most of them anthropomorphic standing figures, also including images of limbs and internal organs, dated by associated coins to the first century, were recovered from the shrine at the mineral springs known as the ''Source des Roches'' ("Rock Spring"). An inscribed lead tablet found at the spring is a major source of information on the Gaulish language. A comparable cache of Gaulish ''ex-voto'' were recovered from a sanctuary at the sources of the Seine, sacred to Sequana. The Revolutionary Communist League (; LCR) was a Trotskyist political party in France. It was the French section of the Fourth International (post-reunification). It published the weekly newspaper ''Rouge'' and the journal ''Critique communiste''. Established in 1974, it became the leading party of the French far-left in the 2000s. Europe Ecology () was a green electoral coalition of political parties in France created for the 2009 European elections composed of The Greens and other ecologists and regionalists. The coalition was launched on 20 October 2008 with the support of the European Green Party and Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a Franco-German MEP previously representing the Alliance '90/The Greens of Germany, but who ran in France in 2009.
