Jean-Michel Nicolier
Jean-Michel Nicolier (1 July 1966 – 20 November 1991) was a French military volunteer, who battled in the Croatian War of Independence in Battle of Vukovar and other battlefields throughout Croatia. He was killed in the Vukovar massacre. Early years Nicollier was born on 1 July 1966 in Vesoul, France to his mother Lyliane Fournier. He was the middle child of three brothers; his brothers are Pierre and Paul. In Vesoul he finished elementary and high school. Nicollier watched the Croatian War of Independence on television in France, and decided to travel to Croatia. He told his mother: In July 1991, he boarded the train and arrived in Zagreb completely alone. There he joined the Croatian Defence Forces and was sent off to the front along the Kupa river in Banovina (region), Banovina. Battle Of Vukovar
The Battle of Vukovar was an 87-day siege of Vukovar in eastern Croatia by the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), supported by various paramilitary forces from Serbia, between August and November 1991. Before the Croatian War of Independence the Baroque town was a prosperous, mixed community of Croats, Serbs and other ethnic groups. As Yugoslavia began to break up, Serbia's President Slobodan Milošević and Croatia's President Franjo Tuđman began pursuing nationalist politics. In 1990, an armed insurrection was started by Croatian Serb militias, supported by the Serbian government and paramilitary groups, who seized control of Serb-populated areas of Croatia. The JNA began to intervene in favour of the rebellion, and conflict broke out in the eastern Croatian region of Slavonia in May 1991. Ivo Josipović
Ivo Josipović (; born 28 August 1957) is a Croatia, Croatian Academic staff, academic, jurist, composer, and politician who served as the president of Croatia from 2010 to 2015. Josipović entered politics as a member of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia (SKJ), and played a key role in the democratic transformation of the League of Communists of Croatia (SKH) into the Social Democratic Party of Croatia, Social Democratic Party (SDP) as the author of its first statute. He left politics in 1994, but returned in 2003, winning a seat in the Croatian Parliament running as an Independent politician, independent candidate on the SDP party list. Vukovar-Srijem County (), Vukovar-Sirmium County or Vukovar-Syrmia County, named after the eponymous town of Vukovar and the region of Syrmia, is the easternmost Croatian Counties of Croatia, county. Tovarnik (, , , ) is a municipality in the Vukovar-Syrmia County in Croatia next to the border with Serbia with the town of Šid and the village of Ilinci on the other side of the border. According to the 2001 Croatian census, 2001 census, there are 2,775 inhabitants, 91.06% which are Croats. The municipality is part of Syrmia. History was first issued on 17 June 1943 by Tito's Partisans in an abandoned stone barn on Mosor, a mountain near Split, while the city was occupied by the Italian army.
