Jean-Baptiste Angrignon
Jean-Baptiste-Arthur Angrignon (March 2, 1875 – 1948) was a Canadian politician and a city councillor in Montreal, Quebec. Background The son of Delphis Angrignon and Flavie Dufresne, he was born on March 2, 1875 in St-Placide, Quebec, grew up in the Deux-Montagnes, Basses-Laurentides area and was a merchant. In 1902, he married Marie-Elisabeth Skelly. He came to Montreal in 1915. St-Placide, Quebec
Saint-Placide is a municipality in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Deux-Montagnes Regional County Municipality, along the north shore of the Ottawa River. History In 1780, the first European settlers arrived here. In 1848, the Parish of Saint-Placide was formed when it was separated from the parish of Saint-Benoît. The new parish name was undoubtedly chosen because Saint Placide, a monk of the sixth century, was a disciple of Saint Benedict. In 1853, its post office opened, and in 1855, the Parish Municipality of Saint-Placide was formed. A wharf, built in 1867, allowed vessels of the Ottawa River Navigation Company to take delivery of wheat at that time in the region. Deux-Montagnes
Deux-Montagnes is a suburban municipality in southwestern Quebec, Canada on the north shore of the Rivière des Mille Îles where it flows out of Lake of Two Mountains (''Lac des Deux Montagnes''). Laurentides
The Laurentides () is a region of Quebec. While it is often called the Laurentians in English, the region includes only part of the Laurentian mountains. It has a total land area of and its population was 589,400 inhabitants as of the 2016 Census. The area is the traditional territory of the Algonquin First Nation. French Canadians began settlement in the first half of the 19th century, establishing an agricultural presence throughout the valleys. During the 20th century, the area also became a popular tourist destination, based on a cottage and lake culture in the summer, and a downhill and cross-country ski culture in the winter. Angrignon Park
Angrignon Park (french: Parc Angrignon) is an urban park in the Le Sud-Ouest borough Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Angrignon Park has a total area of 97 hectares. It includes a 1.1km long lake. It is considered by the City of Montreal as one of its large parks. The park is named for Jean-Baptiste Angrignon (1875–1948), an alderman in Côte Saint-Paul from 1921 to 1934. Before 1927, the area was named Crawford Park. The park was inspired by the design of 19th-century English gardens. The park contains 20,000 trees, winding paths and a pond surrounded by cattails. The park is located just south of Ville-Émard, east of Carrefour Angrignon, which is also named after Jean-Baptiste Angrignon, and west of Verdun. The park was once home to a small farm. Angrignon (Montreal Metro)
Angrignon station is a Montreal Metro station in Le Sud-Ouest borough of Montreal, Quebec. It is operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and is the western terminus of the Green Line. The station includes a large bus terminus for buses to southwest Montreal, the West Island (Dorval), and South Western Quebec. It opened in 1978. Architecture Angrignon station is built with windows encasing the tracks and side platforms, which creates a very light and airy environment. Jean-Louis Beaulieu received an award from the Ordre des architectes du Québec for the design of the station. The station is equipped with the MétroVision information screens which displays news, commercials, and the time till the next train. In October 2019, work began to make the station universally accessible with the installation of elevators at a cost of $18m.
