Jazz Goes To Campus
Jazz Goes To Campus (abbreviated as JGTC) is an annual jazz-themed musical event held in Faculty of Economics and Business University of Indonesia (FEB UI), which was initiated by the UI Faculty of Economics Students' Senate. This event has been held since 1977 and is claimed to be the oldest jazz festival in Indonesia. Along with Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, Jazz Goes To Campus has become a benchmark for the jazz music industry in Indonesia. History JGTC's initlal idea was founded by Candra Darusman in the 1970s, which then he was a student at Faculty of Economics. Coincidentally, jazz music at that time was in demand by the public and university students. In the beginning, JGTC was held at Taman MIPA at UI Salemba Campus in Jakarta with minimal facilities. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles. Depapepe
is a music group originating from Japan. The acoustic guitar duo is composed of Takuya Miura (born 5 April 1983) and Yoshinari Tokuoka (born on 15 July 1977), who formed in 2002. They made their major debut in 2005 with their album "Let’s Go!!!", which generated sales figures of about 100,000 and ranked within the top 10 of Oricon's Instrumental Artist Debut Chart. Before that, they had released three indie albums. The name itself comes from the combination of both short names of the band members, by combining the Japanese word for ''overbite'', 'deppa', and the name of Tokuoka's previous band 'DERUPEPE'. Robert McElhiney James (born December 25, 1939) is an American jazz keyboardist, arranger, and record producer. He founded the band Fourplay and wrote "Angela", the theme song for the TV show ''Taxi.'' According to VICE (magazine), music from his first seven albums has often been sampled and believed to have contributed to the formation of hip hop. Among his most well known recordings are "Nautilus", "Westchester Lady", "Tappan Zee", and his version of "Take Me to The Mardi Gras". Gugun Blues Shelter
Gugun Blues Shelter (GBS), or Gugun Power Trio (for the American and European market), is an Indonesian blues band, formed in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2004. The current members are Gugun on guitar, Fajar Adi Nugroho on bass and Bowie on drums. They have released nine albums. Career The band formed in 2004 to play in blues bars in Jakarta. They have played in jazz clubs and festivals. They were influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Betty Davis, and Led Zeppelin. Maliq & D'Essentials is a jazz and soul music based band from Jakarta, Indonesia. Since their appearance in the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival in 2005, Maliq & D'Essentials popularity has increased, especially among young people in Jakarta. The combination of Indonesian and English in their songs has become one of the typical flagships of their music. Their work is considered to be distinctive among other Indonesian music. Muhammad Tulus or better known by his mononym Tulus (born August 20, 1987) is an Indonesian singer of Minangkabau descent. Early life Tulus was born in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. I Wayan Balawan (born September 9, 1972 in Bali), better known by the single name Balawan, is an Indonesian guitarist and songwriter. He is best known as a Batuan Ethnic Fusion guitarist and his ability to play double neck guitar.
