Jazil (February 11, 2003 – October 11, 2014) was an American Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse. In 2006, Jazil dead-heated for fourth place in the Kentucky Derby but then won the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing#United States Triple Crowns, Triple Crown. Connections Jazil was owned by the Shadwell Stable. He was trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Fernando Jara. He was bred in Kentucky by Skara Glen Stables. 2006 Belmont Stakes
The 2006 Belmont Stakes was the 138th running of the Belmont Stakes. The race was held on June 10, 2006, and was won by Jazil; it was his second victory in eight career starts. The winners of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes did not compete. Pre-race The 2006 Triple Crown series was marred by the injury of Barbaro (horse), Barbaro, the brilliant winner of the Kentucky Derby, during the Preakness Stakes. In the following weeks, Barbaro had undergone surgery for a broken right ankle and was given a good chance at survival. On the day of the Belmont, the world's largest get-well card was set up for fans to sign – roughly 20,000 people did so. Deputy Minister (horse)
Deputy Minister (May 17, 1979 – September 10, 2004) was a Canadian-bred Thoroughbred horse racing Champion. At age two, he won eight out of his nine starts and was voted the winner of both the Sovereign and Eclipse Awards for Champion 2-Year-Old in Canada and the United States, respectively. He also received Canada's Sovereign Award for Horse of the Year. Although his three-year-old campaign was restricted by injury, Deputy Minister rebounded at age four with several major wins. Retired to stud in 1984, Deputy Minister became an outstanding sire, leading the North American sire list in 1997 and 1998. His most famous offspring were Hall of Fame fillies Go For Wand and Open Mind, Belmont Stakes winner Touch Gold and Breeders' Cup Classic winner Awesome Again. Kiaran McLaughlin
Kiaran P. McLaughlin (born November 15, 1960, in Lexington, Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer best known for training 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor. Background McLaughlin was born in an area of the country where horse racing and breeding is preeminent. One of his childhood friends was the son of trainer James Burchell and his first job was as a hotwalker. He was a student at the University of Kentucky for a year before he decided focus on pursuing a career in the Thoroughbred horse racing industry. He spent close to three years as an assistant for various trainers before going to work for U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer, D. Wayne Lukas in 1985. In 1992 he became the agent for jockey Chris Antley, a job he held until November 1993 when he signed on as the trainer for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai. Better Than Honour (foaled February 27, 1996 in Kentucky) is an American thoroughbred mare racehorse, best known for her career as a broodmare. She is out of the Kentucky Oaks winner, Blush With Pride, by the sire, Deputy Minister. Owned by Robert Waxman, she was trained by John Kimmel. Lightly raced at two, Better Than Honour, the favorite, won the Grade II Demoiselle Stakes after Tutorial veered in down the stretch and was disqualified and placed fifth. At three, Better Than Honour placed in the Acorn Stakes and Comely Stakes, with a show in the Mother Goose Stakes. When her racing career was over, Better Than Honour was purchased by John G. Sikura of Hill 'n' Dale Farms in Kentucky.
