Jayantrao Salgaonkar
Jayant Salgaonkar (1 February 1929 – 20 August 2013) was an Indian ''jyotishi'' (astrologer), businessman, historian, scholar, and writer. He was the founder of ''Kalnirnay''. Early life Salgaonkar completed tenth grade. He had a keen interest in astrology from childhood. He wrote ''Kalnirnay'' in 1973, selling over 10 million copies in nine languages. ''Kalnirnay'' is a yearly almanac of all religions containing details of auspicious dates, festivals and celebrations of Farsi, Jews, Muslims, Christians, Hindu and others. He created a combination of ''jyotish'', information and ''dharmashstra''. He was the pioneer of the daily ''Rashi Bhavishya'' and the daily crossword in the Marathi newspaper. Kalnirnay
''Kalnirnay'' () is a calmanac (Calendar + Almanac) published in India. The almanac gives simplified information about the Panchang, auspicious days, festivals, holidays, sunrise and sunset. It has recipes, stories on health and education, monthly Bhavishya and articles on Hindu astrology. History ''Kalnirnay'' was founded in 1973 by Jayantrao Salgaonkar. It initially started as a hand-printed almanac for Marathi subscribers. The logo and typography was designed by Kamal Shedge. The first issue was sold to 10,000 subscribers. It gradually grew to become the largest selling publication in the world, with around 19 million copies being sold annually. Its website was launched in 1996, its desktop e-version (e-kalnirnay) was subsequently launched, and it is now available as an android and iOS application. Malvan
Malvan (also written as Malwan) is a town and ''taluka'' in Sindhudurg District, the southernmost district of Maharashtra State, India, well known for the historically important Sindhudurg Fort. Malvan ''taluka'' consists of villages such as Angane Wadi, Masure, Achra, Khalchi Devli, Jamdul, Juva, Pankhol, Talasheel and Sarjekot. The main occupation here is fishing and agriculture. The staple diet of the local people is fish curry and rice. The town produces Alphonso mangoes and is also known for sweets such as Malvani Khaja made from gram-besan flour and coated jaggery as well as Malvani Ladoos. Other sweets that attract tourists are Konkani Meva, Aambawadi, Fanaspoli, Kajuwadi, and Naralachya Wadya. Sindhudurg Fort (Marathi pronunciation: in̪d̪ʱud̪uɾɡ is a historical fort that occupies an island in the Arabian Sea, just off the coast of Maharashtra in Western India. The fort was built by Shivaji Maharaj.The fortress lies on the shore of Malvan town of Sindhudurg District in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, south of Mumbai. It is a protected monument. History Sindhudurg island-fort was built by Shivaji, the 17th-century ruler of Maratha Empire.
