Jay Norman
Joshua Alden "Jay" Norman (March 20, 1937 – November 14, 2021) was a dancer, actor, and choreographer known for his work in both stage and film productions, particularly in musical theater. He is best known and most closely associated with West Side Story, in which he performed on stage in the original Broadway production, and on tour nationally and internationally, as well as in the 1961 film adaptation. He was also a key member of Jerome Robbins’ ''"Ballets USA"''. Early life Norman was born in Manhattan, New York, on March 20, 1937 to Joshua and Olga Norman (née Kennedy). The Cage (ballet)
''The Cage'' is a ballet choreographed by Jerome Robbins to Stravinsky's Concerto in D. The ballet depicts a tribe of female insects that preys on their male counterparts, in which the Novice falls in love with a male intruder, before being overcome by her animal instincts to kill him. ''The Cage'' was made for the New York City Ballet, and premiered on June 10, 1951, at the City Center of Music and Drama, with Nora Kaye as the Novice. ''Afternoon of a Faun'' is a neoclassical ballet choreographed by Jerome Robbins to Claude Debussy's ''Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune''. The ballet features two young dancers meeting at a rehearsal studio. Robbins was influenced by Stéphane Mallarmé's poem ''L'après-midi d'un faune (poem), L'après-midi d'un faune'', the inspiration for Debussy's score, as well as Vaslav Nijinsky's Afternoon of a Faun (Nijinsky), 1912 ballet to the same score, and his own observation of dancers. Eugene Louis Faccuito (March 20, 1925 – April 7, 2015), known professionally as Luigi, was an American jazz dancer, choreographer, teacher, and innovator who created the Jazzercise, jazz exercise technique. The Luigi Warm Up Technique is a training program that promotes body alignment, balance, core strength, and "feeling from the inside". It is also used for rehabilitation. This method became the world's first standard technique for teaching jazz and musical theater dance. Faccuito developed the technique, which consists of a series of ballet-based exercises, for his rehabilitation after suffering paralyzing injuries in a car accident at the age of 21. He couldn't stop dancing, so he first learned to regain control of his body by what he uses as a cornerstone of his technique – namely, to "lengthen and stretch the body without strain" and "put the good side into the bad side". Matt Mattox (August 16, 1921 – February 18, 2013) was an American jazz and ballet dancer. He was a Broadway performer and a specialty dancer in many Hollywood musicals. His best-known film role was as Caleb Pontipee in the 1954 film ''Seven Brides for Seven Brothers''. After his Broadway and film career, Mattox moved to Europe, where he became a well-respected dance teacher. The Blackburn Twins were an American duo of entertainers (dancer-singer-actor) who appeared on stage, film and television in the mid-20th century. The twin brothers, Ramon Perez and Royce Perez, later professionally known as the Blackburn Twins, were born January 8, 1925 in Blue Point, New York. At the age of seven they performed on stage in the Jerome Kern musical ''Music in the Air'' which ran in 1932-33. Also in 1932, they made their film debut in ''Her First Affaire'', with Ida Lupino.
