Javed Iqbal (general)
Javed Iqbal Ramday HI(M) is a retired general from the Pakistan Army who commanded the XXXI Corps. Born into Arain family, his relatives include Anwar-ul-Haq Ramday who led Operation Janbaz at GHQ, Rawalpindi against TTP and Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday who served as a jurist in Pakistan. Military career Ramday served as GOC Swat during the First and Second Battle of Swat. In 2011, Ramday was wounded while he was airborne when his helicopter came under fire in the Swat Valley. In 2012, he joined the National Defence University in Islamabad, first as commandant and then as chief instructor in B-Division in 2013. In August 2013, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general while he was serving as chief instructor in National Defence University. Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. Operation Janbaz
The Pakistan Army General Headquarters attack (Codename: Operation Janbaz; ), was a hostage-rescue mission carried by SSG Division on 10 October 2009, when 10 gunmen in military uniform opened fire on the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. The attack killed nine soldiers, nine militants and two civilians and was a major escalation in Pakistan's domestic insurgency. One militant was wounded and captured by security forces. Soon after the attack, the militants infiltrated the security buildings where 22 civilian and military officials were held hostage by the militants. The Pakistan Army immediately launched a hostage rescue operation led by the SSG Division, Army Special Forces and the 13th Regular Regiment. Sindh Regiment
The Sindh Regiment (, ) (previously Sind Regiment) is an infantry regiment of the Pakistan Army established on 1 July 1980. The regiment takes its name from Sindh province in southern Pakistan. Prior to its formation there had been no regiment in the Pakistan Army specifically intended to recruit primarily from the Sindhi population. The regimental centre is located in Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan. History Since independence in 1947, the Pakistan Army had been dominated by Punjabis, with as much as 77% of army personnel. A specific regiment was created to address concerns of underrepresentation of Sindhis. The Second Battle of Swat also known as Operation Rah-e-Rast, was Sub-Operation of ''Operation'' ''Black Thunderstorm,'' began in May 2009 and involved the Pakistan Army and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan militants in a fight for control of the Swat district of Pakistan. The first Battle of Swat had ended with a peace agreement, that the government had signed with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in February 2009. Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday
Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday (Punjabi language, Punjabi, ) is a renowned Pakistani statesman, philanthropist, and former jurist who served as senior judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan from 2002 to 2010. His lordship famously restored democracy to Pakistan with a historic judgement against military president Pervez Musharraf. Pakistani Taliban
The Pakistani Taliban, officially the Tehreek-i-Taliban-e-Pakistan (TTP), is an umbrella organization of various Islamist armed militant groups operating along the Afghan–Pakistani border. Formed in 2007 by Baitullah Mehsud, its current leader is Noor Wali Mehsud, who has publicly pledged allegiance to the Taliban (Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan). The Pakistani Taliban share a common ideology with the Afghan Taliban and have assisted them in the 2001–2021 war, but the two groups have separate operation and command structures. Arain
Arain (also known as Raeen) are a large Punjabi Muslim agricultural community with a strong political identity and level of organisation. At the beginning of the last century, they numbered around 1 million and were mainly rural cultivators and landowners concentrated in four districts: Lahore, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ambala, all in the British Punjab province. Following the 1947 partition of India, they are now mainly present in the Pakistani provinces of Punjab and Sindh with a small population in parts of Indian Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
