Jatra ( bn, যাত্রা, or, ଯାତ୍ରା, ) is a popular folk-theatre form of Odia theatre, Bengali theatre, spread throughout most of Odia, Bengali speaking areas of the Indian subcontinent, including Bangladesh and Indian states of Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Tripura As of 2005, there were some 55 troupes based in Calcutta's old Jatra district, Chitpur Road, and all together, is a $21m-a-year industry, performed on nearly 4,000 stages in West Bengal alone, where in 2001, over 300 companies employed over 20,000 people, more than the local film industry and urban theatre. Jatra (Maharashtra)
Jatra or Urus are annual festivals held in a large number of villages in the Indian state of Maharashtra during the months of January to May. These may be in honour of the village Hindu deity (Gram devta) or the tomb (''dargah'') of a local Sufi ''pir''. In some instances, the holy man in the tomb is revered under different names by Hindus and Muslims. Apart from religious observations, celebrations may include bullock-cart racing, kabbadi, wrestling tournaments, a fair and entertainment such as a lavani/tamasha show by travelling dance troupes. A number of families eat meat preparations only during this period. In some villages, women are given a break from cooking and other household chores by their menfolk. Jatra ( or, ଯାତ୍ରା) is a type of Odia theater performance in the Indian state of Odisha. The Jatra season begins from autumn and continues until the monsoon months of June. The Jatra is usually performed on an open-air stage with an audience seated on all sides. The performance includes play, music and dance. Zatra
Zatra(जात्रा) is the Konkani language term for the pilgrimage festivals celebrated at Hindu temples in Goa, India; the equivalent of '' yatra'' and '' jatra''. In Maharashtra the alternative term Urus is used as well. During the zatra, the idol(s) or murtis of the Hindu deity or deities are taken out on special procession either in a " Palkhi" (sort of a Palanquin) or in a large, multi-storied chariot called the Rath. Traditionally, every temple observes this festival once a year on the traditional day. All zatras usually occur after Diwali in October and continues until the Shigmo or Holi festival in March. The most famous zatra of Goa is that of the temple of the Hindu deity Lairai at Shirgao, a place located roughly 30 km away from Panaji when people walk on burning coals with bare legs and that of deity Goddess Shantadurga at Village Fatorpa in Quepem Taluka; approx 50 km from Panaji and 18 km from Madgao.
