Jassem Alwan
Jassem Alwan (, ''Jāsim ʿAlwān;'' 4 July 1928 – 3 January 2018 ) was a Syrian military officer and prominent military figure in Syria in the early 1960s. He rose to prominence during the period of the United Arab Republic (UAR) when he served as the Commander of the Qatana, Qatana Base near Damascus. Alwan, a staunch supporter of UAR President Gamal Abdel Nasser, opposed Syria's secession from the union in 1961, leading two failed coup attempts to overthrow the secessionist government in 1962. He participated in the Ba'ath Party (Syria), Baathist-led 8 March coup that toppled President Nazim al-Qudsi in 1963, but after a Baathist attempt to purge Nasserist officers from the military, Alwan led an insurrection against the new government. It failed, and resulted in Alwan's imprisonment and sentencing to death until he was released in 1964 upon the intervention of Nasser and other Arab presidents. Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani
Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber bin Mohammed bin Thani Al Thani (Arabic: ; born 1959), also known informally by his initials HBJ, is a Qatari politician. He was the Prime Minister of Qatar from 3 April 2007 to 26 June 2013, and foreign minister from 11 January 1992 to 26 June 2013. Early life Hamad was born in Doha, Qatar, in 1959. He is the fifth son of Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani. Through his father, he is the grandson of Jaber bin Mohammed Al Thani. Jaber was a younger brother of Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the founding father of modern Qatar. Taiseer Jaber Abdulmohsen Al-Jassim (, can also be spelled as Taisir Al-Jassim, born 25 July 1984) is a Saudi Arabian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He was the captain of Al-Ahli Saudi FC and vice-captain of the Saudi Arabia national team. He retired from international football in 2018 and from all levels of football as a player in 2020. Karrar Jassim Mohammed Al-Mahmoudi (, born 11 June 1987) known as Karrar Jassim, is an Iraqi former professional footballer, who played for the Iraq national team. Club career Impressive displays for Najaf in the 2007 AFC Champions League, where he scored two goals in six matches, earned Karrar Jassim Mohammed a move to Qatar where he signed for Al Wakra at the start of June 2007. The House of Thani () is the ruling family of Qatar, with origins tracing back to the Adnanite Banu Tamim tribe. Today Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his mother Moza bint Nassir lead the house. History and structure The Al Thani family can be traced back to Mudar ibn Nizar, a claimed descendant of the Biblical figure Ishmael. The tribe moved from the Najdi town of Ushaiger and settled at the Gebrin oasis in southern Najd (present-day Saudi Arabia) before they moved to Qatar. Around the 17th century, the tribe lived in Ushaiger, a settlement north-west of Riyadh. They settled in Qatar around the 1720s. Their first settlement in Qatar was in the southern town of Sikak, and from there they moved north-west to Zubarah and Al Ruwais.
