KTMY (107.1 FM) is an entertainment-oriented talk radio station, serving the Twin Cities as well as portions of West Central Wisconsin. The station is owned and operated by Hubbard Broadcasting. KTMY's studios and offices are located on University Avenue, along the boundary line between St. Paul and Minneapolis, and its transmitter is located at Telefarm Towers in Shoreview, Minnesota, off County Road F West. Station history The station was originally licensed to serve New Richmond, Wisconsin, as WIXK-FM, simulcasting the country music format of that city's WIXK. Hubbard Broadcasting bought both stations in 2000 for $27 million, and moved WIXK-FM to the immediate Twin Cities area, where the station's city of license was changed from New Richmond to Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and its transmitter moved to the Telefarm installation in Shoreview. Coon Rapids, Minnesota
Coon Rapids is a northern suburb of Minneapolis, and is the largest city in Anoka County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 63,599 at the 2020 census, making it the fifteenth largest city in Minnesota and the seventh largest Twin Cities suburb. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. The Telefarm Towers is a transmission site for FM radio and television broadcasting in Shoreview, Minnesota consisting of two guyed towers. The towers, called ''Shoreview Towers'' by local residents, are owned by Telefarm, Inc., a joint venture of Twin Cities broadcasters CBS Television Stations ( WCCO channel 4), Hubbard Broadcasting ( KSTP channel 5, KSTC channel 5.2, KSTP-FM 94.5 FM, and KTMY 107.1 FM), and Tegna (KARE channel 11) for the transmission of digital television and FM radio throughout the Greater Twin Cities. WIXK (1590 kHz, "Hmong Radio 1590") is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting a music, news and talk radio format for the Hmong community of the Twin Cities. It is licensed to New Richmond, Wisconsin, and serves the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The station is owned by Mai Yia Vang, through licensee Hmong Radio Broadcast, LLC. By day, WIXK is powered at 5,000 watts non-directional; at night, to avoid interference with other stations on 1590 AM, it reduces power to 95 watts. New Richmond, Wisconsin
New Richmond is a city in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, United States. Its population was 10,079 as of the 2020 census. History New Richmond was founded in 1857. The first permanent settlement was established by Hiram Foster, who had led a group of settlers from Vermont into the area in search of virgin Wisconsin timber for harvesting. Foster built and operated a sawmill on the banks of the Willow River, which gradually drew more settlers from New England into the area. For the first few years the settlement was called Foster's Crossing, and was later renamed after Richmond Day, the land surveyor who plotted the town. Because another town in Wisconsin had already taken the name Richmond, it was decided to call the town New Richmond.
