Japan participated at the 1959 Summer Universiade, in Turin, Italy. Japan finished ninth in the medal table with 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals. Background In this first edition of the Universiade, Japan sent 22 athletes led by Japanese Olympic Committee, JOC member Kiyoshi Kitazawa.
