Janusz Gąsiorowski
Janusz Gąsiorowski (1889 Lemberg – 1949 Paris) was a Polish general, commander of the Polish 7th Infantry Division during the German invasion of Poland in 1939. Taken prisoner on 4 September in the battle of Częstochowa. He was awarded the Serbian Order of Saint Sava The Order of St. Sava () is an ecclesiastic decoration conferred by the Serbian Orthodox Church and a dynastic order presented by the house of Karađorđević. It was previously a Order (distinction), state order awarded by both the Kingdom of S ... and a number of other decorations. He became the father-in-law of journalist Jerzy Turowicz, who married his daughter Anna, by his writer wife, Zofia Zawiszanka. Their greatgrandson is Pico Alexander, an American actor. Polish General Staff, formally known as the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces ( Polish: ''Sztab Generalny Wojska Polskiego'') is the highest professional body within the Polish Armed Forces. Organizationally, it is an integral part of the Ministry of National Defence and the Chief of the General Staff is the highest ranking military officer at the Ministry. 7th Infantry Division (Poland)
The 7th Infantry Division (, 7 DP) was the name of several units of the Polish Army. Second Polish Republic The original division was formed on 14 May 1919 near Częstochowa. At that time it consisted of two infantry brigades (13th and 14th), and four infantry regiments (25th, 26th, 11th and 27th), as well as two artillery brigades (7th Light Artillery, 7th Heavy Artillery). The division took part in shielding of the Polish borders during the Polish–Ukrainian War of 1919. During the Polish–Soviet War it was commanded by Col. Szubert and reinforced to three brigades (13th Bde under Herman, 14th Bde under Pogórzelski and 7th Artillery Bde under Luberadzki). It took part in the Battle of the Niemen as part of the Polish 3rd Army. Alexander Lukasz Jogalla (born June 3, 1991), known professionally as Pico Alexander, is an American actor. Early life and education Alexander Lukasz Jogalla was born in New York City and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Jerzy Turowicz (; 10 December 1912 – 27 January 1999) was a leading Polish Catholic journalist and editor for much of the post-Second World War period. He was editor of the Catholic weekly magazine ''Tygodnik Powszechny'' from 1945 until his death in 1999, except for three years in the early 1950s. Early life and education Turowicz was born on 10 December 1912 in Kraków, the son of Klotylda (Turnau) and August Turowicz, a judge. In 1930, he joined a Catholic youth organization, called ''Rebirth''. He graduated from Jagiellonian University in 1939 with a degree in philosophy. Career and activities Turowicz was appointed chief editor of ''Głos Narodu'' in 1939. During World War II, he worked in the underground journals. The Order of St. Sava () is an ecclesiastic decoration conferred by the Serbian Orthodox Church and a dynastic order presented by the house of Karađorđević. Battle Of Częstochowa (1939)
The Battle of Częstochowa was one of the first battles of the Invasion of Poland during World War II. It took place on September 1–3, 1939. Preparations The Polish army tasked the 7th Infantry Division to defend Częstochowa. The region started defensive preparations in March 1939 with the planning of a fortified defensive line with concrete bunkers and earthworks (trenches, etc), barbed wire and other defenses. By the time of the invasion, the Częstochowa region had 19 reinforced concrete combat and observation bunkers, plus 4 in Lubliniec as well as wooden and earth bunkers and mine fields, barriers, barbed wire, anti-tank ditches, trenches, artillery, anti-tank guns ( Pistolet przeciwpancernymi Wz 36/bofors 37mm) and machine guns ( Ckm wz. 30) and a telephone network.
