General Kittikachorn retained his post as Defense Minister. *The Asian-African Peoples Solidarity Conference, with 500 delegates, closed after having met for one week in Cairo, where the participants were guests of Egypt's President Gamel Abdel Nasser. *The European Economic Community (EEC), more commonly called "the Common Market", came into being as an economic and cooperative union between Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and West Germany.
