Jannowitzbrücke (Berlin U-Bahn)
Jannowitz Bridge (German: Jannowitzbrücke) is a bridge over the Spree River in Berlin. The bridge connects Heinrich Heine Straße and Brückenstraße in Mitte with Alexanderplatz. History The bridge was built by cotton manufacturer Christian August Jannowitz. Construction of the bridge began in 1822. The bridge was originally a wooden structure and was replaced in 1881 by an iron truss bridge. Jannowitz Bridge was dismantled in 1927 to allow construction of the U8 subway line. It was replaced with a new iron girder bridge that opened in 1932, along with the Jannowitzbrücke U-Bahn station. Mitte
Mitte () is the first and most central borough of Berlin. The borough consists of six sub-entities: Mitte proper, Gesundbrunnen, Hansaviertel, Moabit, Tiergarten and Wedding. It is one of the two boroughs (the other being Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg) which were formerly divided between East Berlin and West Berlin. U8 is a line on the Berlin U-Bahn. It has 24 stations and is long. The U8 is one of three north–south Berlin U-Bahn lines (U6, U9), and runs from Wittenau to Berlin-Neukölln, Neukölln via Berlin-Gesundbrunnen station, Gesundbrunnen. The original proposal was for a Suspension railway, suspended monorail like the Wuppertal Schwebebahn. Colouring and naming The U8 line has had dark blue as its distinguishing colour since it first opened in 1927. Berlin Jannowitzbrücke Station
Berlin Jannowitzbrücke is a station in the Mitte district of Berlin. It is served by the Berlin S-Bahn, S-Bahn lines , , , and and the Berlin U-Bahn, U-Bahn line . It is located next to the Jannowitz Bridge (Jannowitzbrücke) and is a public transport interchange. South of the station is Brückenstraße (“bridge street”) and north of it are Holzmarkstrasse and Alexanderstraße.
