John Thomas "Jannie" Gibson (born 15 May 1941) is a Rhodesian former boxing, boxer. He competed in the Boxing at the 1964 Summer Olympics – Light middleweight, men's light middleweight event at the 1964 Summer Olympics, representing Rhodesia (region), Rhodesia. The , officially the and commonly known as Tokyo 1964 (), were an international multi-sport event held from 10 to 24 October 1964 in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo had been awarded the organization of the 1940 Summer Olympics, but this honor was subsequently passed to Helsinki due to Japan's invasion of China, before ultimately being cancelled due to World War II. Rhodesia, known initially as Zambesia, is a historical region in southern Africa whose formal boundaries evolved between the 1890s and 1980. Demarcated and named by the British South Africa Company (BSAC), which governed it until the 1920s, it thereafter saw administration by various authorities. It was bisected by a natural border, the Zambezi.
