Janis Carol Amatuzio (born 1950) is an American forensic pathology specialist. She has authored books and has practiced forensic science for 20 years. Amatuzio is known as the "compassionate coroner". Early life Amatuzio was born in Minnesota and is Italian American. Her father was Donald Amatuzio, a physician who died in 2006. Career Amatuzio trained at the University of Minnesota and the Hennepin County Medical Center before founding Midwest Forensic Pathology in Minneapolis. She was the Medical Examiner in Anoka County and served as coroner in a number of counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin until 2009. A protégée of Amatuzio, Dr. A. Janis Antonovics FRS (; born 1942 in Riga, Reichskommissariat Ostland) is an American biologist, and Lewis and Clark Professor of Biology, at University of Virginia. Life He was educated at Gravesend Grammar School (1953-1960), graduating from Clare College, Cambridge with a B.A. in 1963, and from University of Wales with a Ph.D. in 1966. He lectured at Institute for Advanced Study, Berlin. Honors He is a 1991 Guggenheim Fellow. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1988. Janis Anne Babson (September 9, 1950 – May 12, 1961) was a Canadian girl who received posthumous acclaim with the donation of her corneas for transplant after her death from leukemia at the age of 10. Her story was reported in a newspaper article syndicated across Canada, inspiring two books and other memorials. When Janis died of leukemia in 1961, corneal transplantation was a relatively unknown procedure. Although parents who lose young children frequently donate some of their organs to others, Janis's bequest was significant because the donation of her eyes at her death was her own idea, and it inspired many other people—across Canada and elsewhere—to become cornea donors as well. Jānis Daliņš
Jānis Daliņš (5 November 1904 – 11 June 1978) was a Latvian race walker. Competing in the 50 km event he won a silver medal at the 1932 Olympics, becoming the first athlete to win an Olympic medal competing for Latvia. He also won the 1934 European title and set seven world records in the 1930s. At the 1936 Olympics he led the race at 30 km, but abandoned the race due to a leg injury. Biography Daliņš started late, and had his first competition at the age of 22. A few months later he set a Latvian record in the 5000 m walk. He finished second behind Ugo Frigerio in the 7 miles walk event and third behind Alf Pope in the 2 miles walk event at the 1931 AAA Championships. Janis Hughes (born 1 May 1958) is a Scottish Labour Party politician, who was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Glasgow Rutherglen constituency from 1999 to 2007. In the inaugural election to the parliament in 1999, Hughes won a 25% majority; this increased to nearly 27% in the 2003 election, despite her accruing almost 3,000 fewer votes. In both elections, around 45% of the votes cast were in her favour. Prior to her election she worked as a nurse and an NHS administrator. She stood down as an MSP at the 2007 election. Janis Kelly (born 30 December 1954) is a Scottish operatic soprano and voice teacher. She is Professor and Chair of Vocal Performance at the Royal College of Music in London.
