Janil Puthucheary
Janil Arusha Puthucheary (; born 6 November 1972) is a Malaysian-born Singaporean politician and paediatrician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been serving as Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment and Ministry of Education (Singapore), Senior Minister of State for Education since 2025. He has also been serving as Party Whip of the People's Action Party since 2019. He has been the Parliament of Singapore, Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Punggol, Punggol Coast division since 2015, as part of Pasir Ris–Punggol Group Representation Constituency, Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC until 2025 and as part of Punggol Group Representation Constituency, Punggol GRC since 2025. Young PAP
The People's Action Party (PAP) is a major conservative political party in Singapore and is the governing contemporary political party represented in the Parliament of Singapore, followed by the opposition Workers' Party (WP). The PAP was established in 1954 as a conventional centre-left party. Following its initial electoral success in 1959, Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew sought to reposition the party ideologically toward the centre. In pursuit of this objective, he expelled the party's leftist faction in 1961, during the period of Singapore's merger with Malaysia. Over the course of the 1960s and since then, the PAP continued its ideological shift towards the centre-right.
