Janelle Chanona
Janelle Andrea Chanona is a marine policy advocate and member of parliament in Belize’s National Assembly serving as a non-partisan Senator, representing Belizean Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Career Between 1999 and 2008, Chanona worked as a journalist, anchor and news director for Great Belize Productions, managed then by Stewart Krohn. Chanona (and her respective camera colleagues) received several awards from the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU), various United Nations agencies, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the International Center for Journalists. Chanona is a recipient of the James A. Waight award, which is awarded annually by the Belize Audubon Society for journalism work in support of conservation in Belize. The National Assembly is the bicameral legislature of the nation of Belize. It is divided into the House of Representatives, with 31 members, elected by universal suffrage, and the Senate, with 13 members, appointed by the Governor-General in consultation with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. Stewart Krohn
Stewart Krohn is a Belizean television Senior management, executive and journalist. He is the general manager of Great Belize Television, a subsidiary of Great Belize Productions, Ltd. Great Belize Krohn formed Great Belize Productions, a video and distribution company, in 1982. GBP would eventually grow to produce a number of informative documentaries about Belize. He applied for and received a television license in 1991, forming what is now Channel 5. Today, Krohn serves as News Director, Producer and GM of Channel 5. On occasion he also serves as a reporter, particularly on news of interest to the country. Krohn has been honored regionally and internationally for his work. The Belize Audubon Society is a conservation group in Belize, formed in 1969. Like similar societies elsewhere, it is named in honor of ornithologist and naturalist John James Audubon. History The Belize Audubon Society was formed in 1969 by Dora Weyer and a group of conservationists. Oceana, inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ocean conservation organization focused on influencing specific policy decisions on the national level to preserve and restore the world's oceans.
