Jan Welmers
Jan Welmers (6 July 1937 – 7 March 2022) was a Dutch composer and organist. Life and career Born in Zuidlaren, the son of an organist and pianist and of an elementary school teacher, Welmers studied at the Prince Claus Conservatoire and at the Utrechts Conservatorium. He was author of a large number of organ compositions, mostly in minimalistic style, starting from 1961. He was professor of organ and music theory at the Utrechts Conservatorium from 1974 to 1998, and organist at the Saint Stephen's Church in Nijmegen from 1974 to 2002. During his career Welmers was the recipient of several awards and honors, including the first prize at the 1968 and the for his career in 2005. He died on 7 March 2022, at the age of 84. Zuidlaren
Zuidlaren ( Noordenvelds: ''Zuudlaoren'') is a village in the province of Drenthe in the Northern Netherlands. Zuidlaren has just over 10,000 inhabitants and is situated on natural heightened land which is called the Hondsrug. The village is part of the municipality of Tynaarlo. Formerly the village had its own municipality called Zuidlaren, but in 1998 Zuidlaren merged with Eelde and Vries. Bunnik
Bunnik () is a municipality and village in the province of Utrecht, Netherlands. The recorded history of the village dates back nearly 2000 years, when the Romans constructed a fort at Fectio (now Vechten) with a harbour facing the river Rhine, which marked the border of the Roman Empire. The fort developed into a thriving trading centre, which continued to exist after the Romans abandoned the fort in the fourth century. Subsequently, the area was occupied by the Frisians and the Franks. In the 8th and 9th century, the villages of Bunninchem (Bunnik), Lodichem ( Odijk) and Wercundia ( Werkhoven) developed. Chief interests of Bunnik are its surrounding nature, consisting mainly of forests and farmlands. Additionally, Bunnik, hosts the oldest Youth Hostel in the Netherlands. The Prince Claus Conservatoire ( nl, Prins Claus Conservatorium) is one of the nine conservatoires in the Netherlands. It is a constituent of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. Utrechts Conservatorium
The Utrechts Conservatorium is a Conservatory of Music in Utrecht, Netherlands and part of the ''Utrecht School of the Arts'' (HKU). The conservatory opened in 1875 and is one of the eldest professional musical education institutes of the Netherlands. Since 1971, the conservatory is located in the former concert hall ''Gebouw voor Kunsten en Wetenschappen'' (Building for Arts and Science) and in the former hospital ''St. Joannes de Deo'', both on the same street. Apart from these two buildings, the ''Nederlandse Beiaardschool'' (Dutch Carillon School), located in Amersfoort, is also part of the school. Saint Stephen's Church, Nijmegen
The Great Church or St. Stephen's Church colloquially called ''Steven's Church'', is the oldest and largest church in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The church is built on a small hill, the Hundisburg. History The history of St. Stephen's dates back to the seventh century. The foundation of the church may be connected with the Christianization campaign of bishop Kunibert of Cologne in the seventh century. In 1247 Nijmegen came under the control of Count Otto II of Gelredome. For strategic reasons, St. Stephen's was moved from the Kelfkensbos to its current location on the Hundisburg. The present church was consecrated in 1273 by Albertus Magnus. Administratively, St. Stephen's fell under the authority of the chapter of the Basilica of the Holy Apostles, Cologne. Gouda () is a city and municipality in the west of the Netherlands, between Rotterdam and Utrecht, in the province of South Holland.
