Jacob Xavery
Jacob Xavery (27 April 1736, The Hague – after 1771) was a Dutch painter. Xavery was the son of sculptor Jan Baptist Xavery and pupil of Jakob de Wit. He practised in Amsterdam, Breda, and The Hague, and also spent time in Paris. He occasionally imitated the manner of Nicolaes Berchem in his landscapes and had a similar style to that of his master, Jakob de Wit, in his feigned bas reliefs. Xavery also painted portraits of several distinguished persons, among them Gerrit Braamcamp and sculptor Charles Cressent. He died towards the end of the 18th century. His ''Vase of Fruit and a Vine Branch'' is displayed in South Kensington Museum. Olof Arenius
Olof Arenius (16 December 1701 – 5 May 1766) was a Swedish portrait painter. Biography Arenius was born in the parish of Bro in Uppland, Sweden. His father was a vicar in Upplands-Bro Municipality, Upplands-Bro. After a period of theology studies at Uppsala University, he studied art under David von Krafft (1655–1724). In 1729, he went to the United Kingdom where he was exposed to the art of portrait painters Godfrey Kneller, Godfried Kneller (1646–1723) and Mikael Dahl (1659–1743). Returning to Sweden in 1736, he was named court painter by King Frederick I of Sweden. He died at Stockholm in 1766. His portraits and Portrait miniature, miniatures in oil are much esteemed, and are to be found in all the public galleries, as well as in the best private collections, in Sweden. Gerard Joseph Xavery
Gerardus Josephus Xavery (27 July 1700, in Antwerp – after 1747), was a Dutch painter. He was the brother of Jan Baptist Xavery, the sculptor, and uncle to the brothers Frans – later his pupil – and Jakob. Pieter Xavery
Pieter Xavery (name variations: Pieter Saverij, Pieter Savoriex, Pieter Xaveri, Pieter Xaverii) (1647 in Antwerp – after 1674 in Antwerp) was a Southern Netherlands, Flemish Baroque sculptor whose principal known works were made during his residence in the Dutch Republic. Life The details about his early life and training are scarce. In 1670 he went to Leiden to study mathematics at the university.Biographical details at the Netherlands Institute for Art History It is not clear whether he was brought to Leiden by his compatriot Rombout Verhulst or was simply his successor. Breda Castle
Breda Castle is a castle in the city of Breda, in the Netherlands. History In the 12th century, a fortress was located at Breda. The city of Breda came into existence near the fortress. In 1353, the Duke of Brabant sold Breda to Jan II of Polanen (Baron of Breda). He reinforced the castle with four towers and a channel. His daughter Johanna of Polanen married in 1403 the German count Engelbert I of Nassau. Their son John IV, Count of Nassau-Siegen, John IV of Nassau enlarged the castle. Henry III of Nassau-Breda changed the castle into a Renaissance palace in 1536. He died in 1538 and his son René of Châlon finished the castle and built a chapel in 1540. The Mauritshuis (, ; ) is an art museum in The Hague, Netherlands. The museum houses the Royal Cabinet of Paintings which consists of 854 objects, mostly Dutch Golden Age paintings.
