Edward Romanowski
Edward Romanowski (30 July 1944 – 11 November 2007) was a Polish sprinter who specialized in the 200 metres. He was born in Warsaw and represented the club Legia Warszawa. At the 1967 European Indoor Games he won a silver medal in the 4 × 300 metres relay, which he ran together with Tadeusz Jaworski, Jan Balachowski and Edmund Borowski. At the 1968 Olympic Games he reached heat two of the 200 metres. In the 4 × 100 metres relay he finished eighth in the final together with Wiesław Maniak, Zenon Nowosz and Marian Dudziak. At the 1969 European Indoor Games he won a gold medal in the relay, where Poland was the only competing team. The men's 4 × 400 metres relay was the longer of the two men's relays on the Athletics at the 1972 Summer Olympics program in Munich. It was held on 9 September and 10 September 1972. The United States at the Olympics, United States were heavily favoured in this event. After the 400 metres final, the IOC banned gold and silver medalists Vincent Matthews (athlete), Vince Matthews and Wayne Collett from the Olympics for life after they staged a protest on the podium, talking to each other and failing to stand at attention during the medal ceremony, while the third American in the event, John Smith (sprinter), John Smith, had pulled a hamstring as he was leading 80 metres into the final and had been ruled unfit to run. This left the Americans unable to field a team, and they were forced to scratch, leaving no clear favourite. Andrzej Badeński
Andrzej Stanisław Badeński (10 May 1943 – 28 September 2008) was a Polish sprinter who specialized in the 400 metres. He won a bronze medal in that event at the 1964 Summer Olympics, and won the gold medal in that event at the European Indoor Championships in 1968 and in 1971. Career Badenski was born in Warsaw and represented the club Legia Warszawa. At the 1962 European Championships he finished sixth in the 400 metres. He did however win few international accolades before winning the bronze medal in the 400 metres at the 1964 Olympic Games. At the same Olympics he finished sixth in the 4×400 metres relay together with the Polish team. At the 1966 European Championships he won a silver medal in the 400 metres, only behind Stanislaw Gredzinski, and won the 4×400 metres relay together with Jan Werner, Edmund Borowski and Stanislaw Gredzinski. The 1969 European Athletics Championships were the ninth European Athletics Championships which were held from 16–21 September 1969 at the Karaiskakis Stadium, Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece. New at these championships were the women's 1500 metres and the women's 4×400 metres relay event. Moreover, women's 80 metres hurdles was replaced by women's 100 metres hurdles.
