Jamie Long
Jamie Long (born December 19, 1981) is an American politician serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2019. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), Long represents District 61B, which includes parts of southern Minneapolis in Hennepin County, Minnesota. From 2023 to 2025, Long served as the Majority Leader of the Minnesota House of Representatives. Early life, education, and career Long attended Carleton College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 2004, and George Washington University, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 2007. Long has worked as an environmental attorney, an energy and transportation aide in the United States Congress and worked for Sheldon Whitehouse and Diana DeGette. Diana Louise DeGette ( ; born July 29, 1957) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for since 1997. A member of the Democratic Party, her district is based in Denver. DeGette was a Chief Deputy Whip from 2005 to 2019 and is the dean of Colorado's congressional delegation since 2007 when fellow Representative Joel Hefley retired; she served as the Colorado State Representative for the 6th district from 1993 until her election to the U.S. House. Presidential primaries and caucuses were organized by the Democratic Party to select delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Convention to determine the party's nominee for president in the 2020 election. The primaries and caucuses took place in all 50 U.S. states, in the District of Columbia, in five U.S. territories, and through Democrats Abroad. They occurred between February 3 and August 11, 2020. Former vice president Joe Biden led in the polls throughout most of 2019. Killing Of Daunte Wright
On April 11, 2021, Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black American man, was fatally shot in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, by police officer Kimberly Potter during a traffic stop and attempted arrest for an outstanding Arrest warrant, warrant. After a brief struggle with officers, Potter shot Wright in the chest once at close range. Wright then drove off a short distance until his vehicle collided with another and hit a concrete barrier. An officer administered Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, CPR to Wright; paramedics were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Potter said she meant to use her service Taser, shouting "Taser! Taser! Taser!" just before mistakenly firing her service pistol instead.
