Deana Lawson (born 1979) is an American artist, educator, and photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work is primarily concerned with intimacy, family, spirituality, sexuality, and Black aesthetics. Greater Columbus Arts Council
The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) is an arts organization in Columbus, Ohio. The council funds artists and organizations in Central Ohio, and hosts the annual Columbus Arts Festival. Building The Greater Columbus Arts Council office is the former Winders Motor Sales Company, a historic building in Downtown Columbus. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. The building is one of few early car dealerships remaining in downtown Columbus. The building was constructed in 1916 during a period of commercial development downtown. The building became an early dealership in the city, and an early commercial business as manufacturing work became less common downtown. In later decades, the building was used in numerous ways, including as a tire store and as a plumbing supply shop. Jamel Shabazz (born 1960) is an African American fashion, fine-art, documentary, and street style photographer. His work has been published in books, shown in exhibitions, and used in editorial magazine works. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. Shabazz centers his work on minority people and areas of America. He was a pioneer in creating awareness of the livelihoods of African-American and other minorities in the New York City area. Shabazz is considered a master at using what is at his disposal to create realistic scenes of being a part of the Black community in that time and place. His works express the joys that come with growing up in the city. Jamel paints the minority and poor class that lives there in a familiar and playful light that goes against negative stereotypes of the time. Analog Photography
Film photography or classical photography, also known by the retronym analog photography, is a term usually applied to photography that uses chemical processes to capture an image, typically on paper, film or a hard plate. These processes were the only methods available to photographers for more than a century prior to the invention of digital photography, which uses electronic sensors to record images to digital media. Analog electronic photography was sometimes used in the late 20th century but soon died out. Don Hogan Charles (September 9, 1938 – December 15, 2017) was an American photographer. He was the first African-American staff photographer hired by ''The New York Times''. In his four decades there, Charles photographed notable subjects including Coretta Scott King, John Lennon, Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. Life and work Charles was born "Daniel James Charles" in New York City on September 9, 1938, to James Charles and Elizabeth Ann Hogan who were immigrants from the Caribbean. He attended George Washington High School in Manhattan and went on to study engineering at City College of New York before dropping out to pursue photography. Gordon Roger Alexander Buchanan Parks (November 30, 1912 – March 7, 2006) was an American photographer, composer, author, poet, and filmmaker, who became prominent in U.S. documentary photojournalism in the 1940s through 1970s—particularly in issues of civil rights, poverty and African Americans—and in glamour photography. He is best remembered for his iconic photos of poor Americans during the 1940s (taken for a federal government project), for his photographic essays for ''Life'' magazine, and as the director of the films '' Shaft, Shaft's Big Score'' and the semiautobiographical '' The Learning Tree''.
