Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense (sports), offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. In some systems, the tight end will merely act as a sixth offensive lineman, rarely going out for passes. Stephen Todd Alexander (born November 7, 1975) is an American former professional football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He was originally drafted by the Washington Redskins in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oklahoma. Alexander was selected to the Pro Bowl while with the Redskins in 2000. He has also played for the San Diego Chargers, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos. He played one season as a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs (1985), and seven seasons as a tight end for the Los Angeles Raiders (1987, 1989–1993), and the Washington Redskins (1994).
