Jamhuri Jazz Band
Jamhuri Jazz Band was a dance band founded as the Nyamwezi Jazz Band in the late 1950s in Tanga, Tanzania, when the country was known as Tanganyika. At the time dance bands were known as "jazz bands" in East Africa, even if they did not play jazz music. It was renamed the Jamhuri Jazz Band in 1966 on the orders of the government of Tanzania because of the tribalism indicated by the word "Nyamwezi". It gained nationwide popularity. The Jamhuri Stadium (Republic Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium in Dodoma, the capital city of Tanzania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home venue for JKT Ruvu Stars JKT Ruvu Stars is a Tanzanian football club based in Dodoma. Jamhuri Sports Club, is a football club based in Pemba Island, Zanzibar. History Jamhuri was established in 1953, and at the time was called Barghash Sports Club. After the Zanizibar revolution in 1964, the name was changed to Jamhuri. The main rival team is Mwenge S.C. as both team are located in Wete.
