Jamez McCorkle
Jamez McCorkle ( ; born ) is an American opera singer. A tenor, he is known for originating the title role in the 2022 opera ''Omar''. Early life and education McCorkle was born in New Orleans. His mother, who was very supportive of him, died just before his college auditions. McCorkle originally focused on piano before switching to voice, later graduating from the Curtis Institute of Music. Career McCorkle's first contracted opera performance was the role of Vladimir Lensky in ''Eugene Onegin'', at the Spoleto Festival USA in 2017. Prior to that, in 2012 he took part in the "I Sing Beijing" program, performing at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (China), and appeared on a popular China Central Television program, performing George Gershwin's "It Ain't Necessarily So" alongside American soprano Meghan Picerno and Dutch-Canadian Tenor Lucas van Lierop. San Francisco Classical Voice
Robert Paul Commanday (June 18, 1922 – September 3, 2015) was an American music critic who specialized in classical music. Among the leading critics of the West Coast, Commanday was a major presence in the Bay Area music scene over a five-decade career. From 1964 to 1994 he was the chief classical music critic of the ''San Francisco Chronicle'', following which he became the founding editor of ''San Francisco Classical Voice'' in 1998. As a critic, Commanday held high standards, though his writing was interspersed with humorous comments. His focus concerned American music in general, but particularly ensembles, performers and events in San Francisco. Also a music educator and choral conductor, Commanday held brief teaching posts at Ithaca College and the University of Illinois, before a decade of teaching music and conducting choirs at the University of California, Berkeley. Lucas Van Lierop
Lucas van Lierop (born 1988) is a Dutch-Canadian tenor based in Amsterdam. Career Van Lierop was born in Hilversum, in 1988, and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. He began his professional vocal studies at the Schulich School of Music, under the instruction of baritone Sanford Sylvan. While at McGill University, he collaborated with musician Grimes, and Adam Scotti – the future official photographer of Justin Trudeau – on the recording of one of her first music videos, in an abandoned warehouse. Miwa Matreyek
Miwa Matreyek is a director, animator, designer, and performer working in Los Angeles, California. In 2007, Matreyek received her MFA in Experimental Animation and Integrated Media at the California Institute of the Arts. While being a student, she developed her talent and passion for animation and collage. Matreyek collaborated with fellow students and interactive multi-media expert Chi-wang Yang and American singer Anna Oxygen to form a theater company called Cloud Eye Control. Miwa Matreyek blends animation, collage, and performance together in order to present her work of art to the public. She uses her own shadow body, rear-projected animation, and perfect timing in her work. The Pulitzer Prize for Music is one of seven Pulitzer Prizes awarded annually in Letters, Drama, and Music. It was first given in 1943. Joseph Pulitzer arranged for a music scholarship to be awarded each year, and this was eventually converted into a prize: "For a distinguished musical composition of significant dimension by an American that has had its first performance in the United States during the year." Omar ibn Said ( or ''Omar ben Saeed''; –1864) was a Fula Muslim scholar from Futa Toro in West Africa (present-day Senegal), who was enslaved and transported to the United States in 1807 during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Remaining enslaved for the remainder of his life, he wrote a series of Arabic-language works on history and theology, including a short autobiography.
