James Wiley (Medal Of Honor)
James Wiley (c. 1835 – February 7, 1865) was an American soldier who fought with the Union Army in the American Civil War. Wiley received his country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for actions taken on July 3, 1863 during the Battle of Gettysburg. Biography On July 2, 1863, during the Battle of Gettysburg, Wiley captured the flag of the 48th Georgia. He was awarded with the Medal of Honor following this action. Following Gettysburg, Wiley was captured during the Siege of Petersburg and taken to a prisoner of war camp in Andersonville, Georgia. He died at the camp on February 7, 1865. James Franklin Wiley (May 17, 1832 – January 12, 1902), was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate. Biography Wiley was born on May 17, 1832, in Gouverneur, New York. Jim Wiley
Thomas James Wiley (April 28, 1950 – December 26, 2021) was a Canadian professional ice hockey center and coach. He played 62 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) between 1972 and 1977, split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks, with the bulk of his career being spent in the minor Central Hockey League. Wiley retired as a player in 1980, and in 1984 became a coach in the United States Hockey League, and later coached in several minor leagues. In 1995–96 Wiley coached the NHL's San Jose Sharks for the final 57 games of the season, before returning to the minors. His last season as a coach was in 2008. Playing career Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Wiley signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1972 following a fine collegiate career at Lake Superior State University, becoming the first Lakers alum to play in the NHL. James Willey
James Willey (born October 1, 1939 in Lynn, Massachusetts), is a composer. He began composing at an early age and attended the Eastman School of Music, earning a bachelor's degree in 1961, a master's in 1963, and his Ph.D. in Music Theory and Composition in 1972. He studied composition with Bernard Rogers and Howard Hanson.3 In 1964, Willey went to the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood where he studied with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gunther Schuller. Willey began his teaching career at SUNY Geneseo in 1966, received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1978, and was awarded the rank of Distinguished Teaching Professor in 1990. He retired from the college in 2000. Willey has compiled an impressive record of compositions, recordings and publications, and has continued to compose and present premiers of new works since his retirement.
